Those are the literal meanings. Some other meanings do have the definition similar to:

a group of persons related by common descent or heredity.

any people united by common history, language, cultural traits, etc.: the Dutch race.

Also, a start and finish defines a race.

Am I of a different race in the summer because I tan?
If I were to become disfigured, like losing a limb, would I be of a different race?
If two races mix, does that form a different race? while your on Wikipedia look up the term hypodescent for this one

You said that polack isnt racist because thats petes nationality not his race. I didnt know that race was intertwined with common history, language, cultural traits, ect.
