Help Building a new computer *** FREE MONEY***

/waits for baldy’s “i build computers for a living”

how much do you plan to spend… and i would stray away from gigabyte for many many many reasons

I already PMed you the setup…

price range youre looking to spend?

under a grand. the cheaper the better.

preferably 600-700 for everything

HAHA good luck building something good…

my motherboard and processor alone cost that much

WORD

Opteron FTW!!
At least 2 gigs
Raptors in raid

This is the best budget board known to man (made by asus),i’ve been running it for 6 months without a problem.

I have a pentium 2 300mhz, 64 MEGABYTES of RAM, 6.4GB HD, and voodoo 3 video card in my possession. PM me for pricing details. Just for you i will hook you up

$600-700. . . yeah, you are gonna have to cut some corners and lower your standards :3

im going to prob spend a grand… i don’t have issues with that…

i was just trying to mitigate costs

You are gonna have to mitigate some insanity too. Bump that up to $1500 and you can make it work.

I honestly don’t think Opterons are worth the money at the moment. The best bang-for-buck AMD X2 processor out there is the 4400+ at a reasonable $249 on Newegg. 1MB of L2 Cache without absurd price hikes as you jump beyond that, say to a 4600+ or a 4800+.

Loc, I had my friend buy everything to build an “aight” system last week. I’m not 100% sure of everything at the moment (Everything but a sound card) and with shipping all of the pieces it came to just over a grand. After I speak to him and get the exact pieces I’ll shoot ya a PM.

Motherboard+CPU+Memory: $365 - $555
Video: $150-$500
Monitor: $200+ for a 19" LCD
Case + Power Supply: ~$50-100
DVD burner: $30
Floppy: $10
Hard Drive: SATA II: $50-$200

DFI Ultra-D Infinity socket 939 motherboard $100
AMD x2 3800+ processor (2x512k cache)2.0GHz : $150
AMD x2 4400+ CPU (2X1M cache - Double the cache)2.2GHz : $250
I’d say go opteron, but they didnt drop the prices. You’ll live with half the cache on the 3800+ Dual-Core chip. If you want the cache of the opteron, spend the extra $100 on the 4400+

Memory:
Crucial Technology Ballistix 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 500 (PC 4000) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model BL2KIT6464L505 - Retail - $115

G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 500 (PC 4000) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ - Retail - $205

Video: Up to you. The more expensive, the better the gaming. Most higher end cards have only DVI outputs. The video card you choose will directly influence your gaming experience. If you don’t have an LCD, time to invest another $200 in a nice 19" LCD as well.

Hard Drive: Just make sure it is a SATA 3.0Gb/s drive (SATA II) The size depends on you. 80GB drives are $50. But, 160GB drives are $70. How much of a penny-pincher do you want to be?

Case and Power Supply: Case is completely up to you. Power Supply. I like to go at least 450w, but I have 5 hard drives, 2 burners, and a crap load of components! You’d be OK with a 350w I’d bet, that comes with the case.

REMEMBER, the case has to be big enough for the motherboard! So, the case has to be ATX, not mATX!

K, back to work. Hope this helps

You wont have to spend a grand if it s just the tower your after…
