Incident #7935November 16, 2005
Dear Kyle T Cuviello,
The Network Operations Center has received and investigated a report of
potentially damaging network activity originating from your computer. Please
refer to the incident number above in any communication with us.We believe this incident has occurred because your computer was responding
to an IRC controller which indicates a virus infection or that the device is
otherwise compromised. Please disconnect this computer from the network. Do
not connect via UBWireless or the dial-up modem services since this will be
considered an additional incident and could result in immediate deactivation
of your UBITName privileges. We recommend that you have your computer repaired by an IT professional
either on campus or at a competent computer vendor. A list of local computer
repair vendors is available at www.cit.buffalo.edu/sir/service.html .UBMicro
also offers a service, for a fee, to remediate these problems and help you
prevent further similar problems in the future.Since this is your first incident, we will place trust in your ability to
ensure that your computer has been properly repaired. Subsequent incidents
will require that your computer repair be certified at your expense. Please email cit-incident-response@buffalo.edu or call 716-645-5070 when
your computer has been repaired so we may close our record of this incident. We have intentionally sent you multiple copies of this message to be certain
we reach you. If you have any questions or believe you have received this
notice in error, please contact Betsy Mugo, Incident Response Coordinator,
at 716-645-5070. For any other problems, please contact the CIT Help Desk.CIT Help Desk UBMicro
