Holy Smoke! Ferrari To Recall Every 458 Italia

…Year of the recall :lol

Ferrari recalls Italia cars after reports of fires
Burning Ferrari 458 The owner of this 458 noticed the fire while he was driving along in Paris

Ferrari has decided to recall all of the 458 Italia cars it made this year, following reports of a number of the luxury cars catching fire.

Ferrari said its engineers had flown around the world to investigate five reports of “thermal incidents”.

As a result, it will be asking the owners of more than 1,200 of the supercars to bring them in for modification work.

The 458 Italia typically costs about £170,000 ($260,000).

There were reported incidents in California, Paris, Switzerland, China and one other unnamed location.

Ferrari said the problem had been traced to adhesive used in the wheel-arch assemblies.

In certain circumstances, the glue can begin to overheat, smoke and even catch fire, a spokesman told BBC News.

In extreme cases, the melting of the adhesive can lead the heat shield - the liner which protects the engine - to deform and move closer to the exhaust, causing the lining to catch fire.

The handful of owners who first reported the fires - and that were later confirmed to be due to this problem - will now receive a new model, Ferrari said.

For the rest, their cars will be modified to replace the adhesive with mechanical fasteners.

Ferrari launched an investigation last month after photos purporting to show 458 models on fire or burnt out emerged.

stand up company.

to not properly test their product and put people in outrageously dangerous situations

It only happened because its a hot car! get it? :rofl :lol :forl

Makes you wonder how the car made it though testing and a top gear test drive without this being discovered.

I’m sure the car was properly tested, it was an adhesive in the wheel arches, that im sure would have been overlooked by many manufacturers. Most adhesives are flamable and yet they’re used on all kinds of cars in all sorts of ways and places on the car. I’m sure the car was put through the ringer, and no one spotted an issue, as they stated “certain circumstances” yes that may be a bunch of bullshit, but who knows.

I think that was a very ignorant statement to say. Do you own a Ferrari? Do you work for them? Have you personally seen the in’s and outs of what they do to test their cars? Or the developing process it goes through?

No?

Okay then

i just say stand up, because Ferrari is replacing the cars that were damaged. takes huge balls to admit youre wrong and take the proper steps to correct it.

He may not, but have you?

No?

Okay then.

I wasn’t making a statement about a company I have never dealt with… He was.

Thanks.

You also don’t know his history with the company. For all you know he has worked at a Ferrari dealership near NYC and his father owns a few of them. You don’t need to deal with a company to accuse them of anything. Ferrari DID put their customers in very dangerous situations. I’m guessing a lot of the drivers who own them have more miles on them than Top Gear put on or any other magazine did. If Ferrari failed to test the cars until they had good mileage on them for this catastrophe to occur, then it really is Ferrari’s fault.

And that’s all coming from one of the biggest Ferrari fanboys on this forum.

It is great of them to replace the cars that burned up, and not let the victims’ insurance companies deal with it, even though I’m sure the owners filed a claim before they knew this issue was with every 458.
