Im disappointed with the lack of imagination of this thread.
I need Butch to chime in about how he would like a model T or a Stanley Steamer.
hahahaha

???
How is it the opposite when the decision (then and now w/ 20/20 hindsight) and my arguments (for the most part) were the SAME? Just various people screwed me around on money (and three years later that hasn’t changed) and I couldn’t get my deposit on time. Winter passed and in spring I feel into, as Carrol Smith puts it “The SCCA trap…” Club racing is fun and all, but the only variable in racing should be the driver (not car choice, engine/ballast compensations, time and money put into the engine…)

I couldn’t remember exactly what you stated and i thought you had denounced karting because of reasons to do with not learning about driving a real car. Either way Karting was the best 4 years I’ve had racing but I will say that even in spec classes you are still going to have to deal with the person who spends more money on tires/equipment/practice ect ect.

Um, no, that was Bret saying how he didn’t see how karting translated into car. But thanks for putting words in my mouth.
How can you comparitively spend more money on equipement when it is a factory sealed engine, ballasted classes, and tires are also spec at $85 a set? I guess there are guys that will replace wheel bearings every race and request a rebuild every other.
Practice, no arguement there, but then again I already said the only variable should be the drivers.

I didn’t mean to put words in your mouth, in fact I don’t really care I just thought it was you who had said this la couple years ago when everyone was going to buy spec karts. That being said even with spec motors/weights/tires/gears there will be the people who can afford new tires every race, a motor refreshing every couple races and the newest/greatest chassis/parts. It doesn’t mean you cant beat them, hell I did it successfully for both of my track championships, BUT it still something you have to deal with. There is always someone who is willing to out spend you, regardless of if it makes them faster or not.
