Lancer Evolution MIEV

It’s not exactly news, but this is an interesting idea. This Mitsubishi has 4 electric motors - one for each wheel. No drive shafts. No transmission. Only a wheel bolted to a motor. Each motor produces 382 ft-lb of torque.

They are planning a production version for 2010. Electric doesn’t have the personality of internal combustion, but that has to be efficient. No drivetrain loss and the batteries are on the floor for a low center of gravity.

Opinions?

Seems pretty cool. Electric motors are torque monsters, so this thing probably scoots pretty well.

anyone hear of an update on this car, curious to see if its gonna happen?

Looks like it’s not going to happen now. Just found this article from a couple of weeks ago.

Also, found a Mitsubishi Colt based MIEV that is rear wheel drive. Going to be produced in Japan only?

I still like the idea, though. You could lose an entire motor and have separate independent motors to get you home.

Yea my instructor said its just a matter of time before they pretty much convert to all electric vehicles.

not to bad lookin…but i hate mitshubishis

100% tq at 0 rpms, lacks hp but that is now. Battery Cell advacements have to improve dramatically for anyone to start changing to the electric car.

That would be a pretty sick car, I’m sure it would be great out of the hole. I’m not sure how recharging those suckers would be though. I can’t imagine it has a huge range with that kind of power.

I can dig, but there’s something about cars without internal combustion engines that doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t even know why.
