I’m now hearing rumors about the Lightning returning with a 6spd Automatic transmission.

an SVT Ranger, possibly an SVT Expedition, along with a performance version of the Ford 500.

r u sure thats why the gto came out…to compete with kids buy cars for 5 grand and making them fast!!! i think gto came out b/c no more f-bodys and pontaic needs something thats fast and is a top runner!!! mainly b/c the fact that ppl buy more v6 mustangs than f-bodys and the numbers went down…idk…maybe the fact that a movie came out and made ppl think they can sup up there moms old civic and thats what put the bullet in the f-body…but as to some f-bods and some mustangs are still best bang for buck

you are missing the bigger picture. No one was that into performance cars during the mid 90’s. If you wanted to go “fast” then the only options were the camaro and the mustang. And they werent exactly speed demons either. The GT had problems breaking out of the 15’s, and the Z28 was lucky if it broke mid 14.s Now you can buy a Evo, WRX, STI, SRT-4, and probably a few other 4cyl cars that would all smoke the shit out of that. The import scene lighted the enthusiast fire. And with a whole slew of imports that could eat their muscle cars alive, the manufacturers had to step it up. How happy would you be if your big bad cobra would get spanked stock for stock against a Neon?
