Well, the time has finally arrived. The call has been put out on the RX-7 forums for volunteers for the march 20 autocross.
I’ll be volunteering at the event, and I’d encourage anyone who is going to attend to volunteer as well. We have future plans of hopefully hooking up with other car clubs for organized events, and we’ll start that by helping another club out with one of theirs. The RX-7 guys are awesome - so if you’ve never been to an autocross, GET YOUR ASS OUT THERE!! :E
March 20th is fine if you want to slalom your winter beater.
But I probably won’t have my car out of storage until early april at the earliest. And even then the tarmac surfaces in the spring are usually crappy (lots of debris, etc.) until June-ish.
Matt (ChromeDragon) brought a 2WD Chevy pickup to the autocross Jan. 30. If he can race that, you can race whatever you’ve been driving now.
Even if you don’t race, volunteer for events now so you don’t necessarily have to volunteer at events in the future! Especially those of you who haven’t autocrossed before - come out and see what it’s all about. Hell, I have yet to autocross myself, but one day out there was enough to get me hooked.
I imagine the runways at Namao will be clean by now, but come March 20th they should definately be clean/dry. When I was there before it didn’t seem like there was that much grit on the pavement, probably safe unless you’re driving a show car.
