Its not completly the oil either. This also goes with geography, but they are almost in the middle of EVERYTHING! Many planes transfer there on the way from Europe / Africa to India, China, Australia. It is also very central and makes a great halfway meeting point for businesses from the East and West. They are smart, they realize oil will eventually run out, and are using the money to invest in sometype of a future, (tourism and business).
