it’s up to you to interpret how the audience will take it, not the other way around. If anything said about a black person can be considered racist then why keep going for the obvious historical ones?
if this wasn’t true then a hate crime would be impossible to commit.
True, but its still not strong enough to determine whether its “racist” or not. Im part of the audience as are you. We can both have different interpretations, so how is the person who presents this comparison able to determine how the audience will take it. Its a difficult standard to argue which is why its such a large problem in this day and age. I could really get into it but I wont because most will consider it as “racist”. Let take an example though… Im a pretty burly dude (well can be at times) or even you for example when your growing your beard. Now, if I were to compare you to some creature what would it be? A gorilla? No, that wouldnt make sense. You would look more similar to me as a caveman or a yetti. Now, take a hairy black man, what would you compare him to? A yetti? A caveman? No… prob not because a gorilla looks more similar to a black man. Same situations, same sort of comparison. Is this racist? Its an undeniable comparison that black people look like primates, once people accept this and stop making it a big deal than this can be one less problem society has to deal with.
the apology from the site that hosted the image is great:
The Hot Girls blog posted a short explanation in Chinese, along with a loosely translated apology in English, explaining, “I am very sorry for this article, and that this is the program automatically issued a document from the article. Do not the subject of race and politics make the discussion too radical and sincere hope that the world is very peaceful.” The Guardian also reported that the site took down the offensive image of Michelle Obama.
Every culture has “history”. The pols were enslaved long before african americans… Im Polish, I could care less. Call me a polack, make fun of my intelligence because of this, tell me all the pol jokes in the world. It doesnt bother me. Im educated and I have more important things to worry about in life. Look what we did to the asians… put them in concentration camps and treated them worse than the African American slaves. Are the Asians demanding reparations? Are they crying out about people being racist. No, they live their lives, work their jobs, and do better for themselves. When we brought the blacks over as slaves, we feed them, gave them a place to sleep, some of them learned how to read and write (not all of them). We put them to work unlike the jews of the holocaust who were just killed because of what they believed in. The irish are known to be drunks that get into fights and have red hair. Call out an Irish guy telling him hes a leprechaunic crazy drunk who wants to rumble with everybody. Chances are hell laugh, raise his glass to you and continue on with his life. The bottom line to the problem being discussed as to why all of this is always an issue all comes down to the African American race. They are why we have these “race” problems because they make it a big deal…
Also I just wanna clarify that I am by no means trying to attack you with this (theblue). Im just being as logical in this as I can. Chances are the person that posted the picture comparison of Michelle was doing it with racist intentions, but I hope you can understand my thought process and views on this matter…
never took it as an attack, no problem. I’ll be the first to admit that I love a good racist joke, but the audience is what matters (not the intention of the speaker). When the first image to show up on google when you type “Michelle Obama” is her as a monkey, that’s going to be a problem and it has nothing to do with free speech or two wrongs making a right because you are polish.
