MULE: 1991 Ford Mustang Conv. - The Ocean Side Cruiser

Bought this one just over a year ago. Came through the local Yokohama auction. She was in fair shape and needed some work as expected. On the good side though the mileage was very low & genuine at 46K KM. Under body in solid form, exterior panels included.

To date the following have been renewed:

Newer fuel tank
fuel lines
fuel filter
oil service
rad flush
Sard hi-flow fuel pump
C&L 73mm AFM
used working A9P CPU

Couple shots from last week.

For 06-14-2009, the RH front shock was removed. Spare coilover damper was fitted loosely and all is a go. Unfortunately though this damper is well to short to fit properly so going with a spare set of high end coilovers made in Holland, assembled in Japan. Kei Office.

Spare set is much longer and full cartridge is threaded so base mount will be fully height adjustable. Will share some more photos of this set once fitted.

Other than all of this good news, Im a little worried about the springs to be used. Front end of this car is fairly heavy. Thinking a 10-12KG front spring may be best or even heavier. Any members have advice on springs?

Finally a little rumble from the factory system. God is it ever quiet http://sbftech.com/Smileys/default/shocked.gif

I’ll keep updating as work progresses. Slow naturally with a fully taped schedule these days.

i wonder how many fox body mustangs have a sard fuel pump and kei office coilovers haha  that thing is begging for an exhaust system, so quiet!

Yeah kinda odd but they work. I figure the Sard pump is basically the same as any other 250L pump on the market. Denso, walbaro etc., they all do the job.

Interesting project choice. What plans do you have in store for it?

Beyond updating the suspenison, ill have a go with a 5 lug swap. Engine short block will remain STD. Feel its in good shape. Recently been in talks with Jay Allen from Camshaft Innovations. He’s offering a set of Canfield alumi’s with 1.7 roller rockers for a good rate. Little overkill but I want the most out of this NA engine. Many other plans but we’ll have to wait and see as time progresses.

lol was just going to post, jdm parts on a foxbody :mamoru:

If you want to get the most out of a fox NA put some AFR 185s or Trickflow Twisted Wedge heads on it. Don’t use Canfields they are too big. 1.7 RR are over rated, 1.6s are fine. A Trickflow stg 2 cam would be perfect. Get a nice tubular GT-40 upper and lower intake on it.

How popular are 5.0L Fox-bodies over there?

oh yeah!!!

They never sold this model, so what ever low level amount that are over here were privately imported. In the last 5 years I’ve seen maybe 4 on auction and a couple roaming the streets.

Ford didnt go nuts until the 94 model year Mustang was released. They actually sold this SN95 model at Ford dealerships through out Japan.

I ready two years ago in an automotive export paper that Ford had a hair over 80 dealerships in Japan. Vehicle line up were mixed from EU and USDM models.

Not much to update on the Fox. Sitting covered up.

3G alternator may be converted on Sunday. Just need to find some heavy gauge wire.

This is a really interesting project! The location, parts used, etc. obviously make it more intriguing than your standard Mustang convertible here. I can only imagine how the engine and exhaust note will stand out there

Are the side mirrors an import/conversion thing?
