So I doubt most of you will care. A really good friend of mine Dave moved to japan 2 years ago to teach english, now works for a subdivision of toyota and is livin any JDM fanbois dream. A few of you have met him and his Z31 SS before he went back home to texas, where he has a TRUE Fairlady S30 that he and his old man started to restore, and he works on everytime he goes home. In Japan he now has an AE86 thats slowly becomming a track whore, hakoksuka skyline that hes slowly doing a resto on, and now this little mitsubishi he bought a couple weeks back.
Anyways when he showed me this little mitsu a few weeks back I couldent imagine him even fitting in it and he thought everyone was going to bust on him for it but who knew so many people were going to like it…
He majored in Japanese at UAlbany. Was offered a teaching job contract for 3 years, he absoloutely hated it, he was treated like shit, he taught at a private school and taught from age 4 to as old as old can get in japan. Was extremely overworked for what he was getting paid. Found a job at a subdivision of toyota looking at schematics and release material for present and upcomming cars making sure the english is correct and makes sense, dont remember how he found it but he loves it, gets great pay etc.
Awesome, good job on his part… I met a few English teachers out in Japan, most of them were having a great time.
Most of the teachers get sent out to the boonies (not a big city like Tokyo) due to demand, but I ran into a few in Tokyo who were just partying and stuff and for the most part they were loving the life there… Like I said most were from the boonies but came to Tokyo to go all out on the club tip.
I think they made about $30,000-$35,000 US a year, which doesn’t sound like all that, but that’s probably closer to a net amount and their housing and stuff was subsidized… Don’t know how much that’s changed.
I didn’t hear of too many that were being overworked, in fact most had enough free time they could give private lessons to earn more income.
Yet others were just chilling and partying, spending mad YEN trying to meet JDM hoezz to give other types of “private lessons”…
And these were the ones I made sure to roll with. Good stuff. Bwahahah.
