Need help figuring something out(math)

This a simple problem for someone that actually remembers how to figure it out. I have a 5 gallon bucket and I need to figure out how high to fill it for it to be a square foot. It’s diameter is 32.5" at the bottom and gets only slightly wider going up.(I’m not worried about being that accurate)

you need the I.D. of the bucket at the bottom, I.D. of the bucket at the Top, and the distance between those 2 I.D. measurments in order to have enough info.

“slightly wider” is a rough opinion

plus @ 32.5" diameter… is a pretty short 5 gallon bucket.

32.5" Circumference?

A 5 gallon bucket who’s diameter is 32.5? That means the bucket is only 1.39 inches tall. LOL.

also, square foot is a measure of area. Do you mean Cubic foot?

Pi^radius square times height for the volume…go from there

If you mean cubic foot, this is the formula you want to use:

Height to fill to = 2191/(diameter^2)

where your diameter is in inches…

If you want to be more accurate you would actually use a calculus derived equation that describes the volume of a frustum cone. This gets a little uglier than i think you want to get…

2.08299’’ ?
Vol=Pi r^2 h
1=Pi 1.354166^2 h
h=.173583…
h*12=2.08299

LoL at joo guys

FYI,

a 5 gallon bucket will not hold 1 cubic foot of liquid.

7.48 gallons = 1cu-ft

please re-state your question when you have time to think.

I’m sorry, I meant circumference. I only need an approximate measurement so we can go with 32.5 circumference.
My Problem is I have tons and tons of blast media that I need to dispose of and I need to try to figure out about how much it weighs. I figured a bucket would be easy to just fill and weigh then subtract the amount for the bucket. Since the dumpsters go by sq. ft. anyway this would be the easiest way to tell how high I could fill it.

Sorry, I forgot I have to cover all my bases before I ask any questions. I’ll rethink question and post later.

if you fill the bucket about 10.375 inches (10 3/8) it will be ROUGHLY .5 cubic feet.

now reply to my PM damnit! :smiley:

That’s all I needed thanks!

u in high school???

not yet :meh2:

nm

i finished all 3 levels of calculus, i dont wanna even think about this shit even tho i still have like 6 more math courses to take

The bigger problem ‘might’ be if they decide to consider the blast media as hazardous waste or not. Won’t matter how much you can fit in if they won’t accept it.

That’s all set, we have it tested.
