NYY vs Rangers: Game VI

The Yankees need to stop buying people and learn how to farm the system.

You’re joking, right? You’re talking about a team that had the second best record in the AL, plays in the AL East, and a team that was eliminated from the ALCS. Yet, how many teams that “farm the system” make it to the playoffs 14 out of 15 years? While winning 5 world series rings in the process?

Mets starting ptchers
Johan Santana
Jon Niese
Mike Pelfrey
R.A. Dickey
Jenrry Mejia

2 out of the 5 came from the farm system.

Yanks starting pitchers
CC Sabathia
AJ Burnett
Andy Pettitte
Phil Hughes
Javier Vazquez

2 out of the 5 came from the farm system.

Pettitte who has the most playoff wins in history, the most playoff clinching wins in history and has multiple seasons of 20+ wins.

Phil Hughes was an 18 game winner this year.

Lets discuss closing pitchers now.

Mets - Francisco Rodriguez. He came from where?.. Hint: Not farm the mets farm system
Yankees - Cue Enter Sandman. Need I say more?

Infield
Jeter - Huge contract with the Yankees and well deserved. Drafted by the Yankees.
Jose Reyes - Also homegrown.

Luis Castillo vs Robinson Cano. That comparison is laughable. Cano is going to brankrupt the yankees after he qualifies for free agency. Btw… Castillo is not homegrown, Cano is.

So the Yankees out of the infield have big contract for Tex and Rodriguez complared to Davis and Wright who were both homegrown by the mets. Tex was signed as a FA – one of the best first basemen in the leagues and Arod is well, Arod. Arod was not signed as a FA - Yanks gave up Alfonso Soriano (who was homegrown). Really, Soriano for Arod, do we even need to discuss that?

For the outfield the only huge contract is Granderson – who we gave up Austin Jackson, Ian Kennedy and Phil Coke. Austin Jackson is a very talented young player and so is Kennedy. Both drafted by the Yankees.

Ontop of that, I’m sure you’ve nevr heard of Jesus Montero who is said to be one of the most talented players in the minor leagues right now. He’ll be replacing Posada.

Don’t try acting like the Mets haven’t had their fair share of Free agents either in recent years. Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, Johan Santana, Mike Piazza, Pedro Martinez. Just to name a few.

Yankees farm system is stacked. Did you also forget the Yanks had Mike Lowell at one point? He was traded because there was no room for him with having Scott Brosius. They traded him as a favor to him because everyone knew he’d get no playing time with Brosius at third base.

List goes on and on. The Yanks develop talent, scout talent, and trade talent. Their farm system has depth. And this is comparing them to the Mets… gimme a break.

The Marlins / Rays / A’s do amazing things with their farm systems. Marlins are a joke – trade away their talent like theirs no tomorrow. Rays dont have the money to keep their awesome players and the A’s just refuse to spend a lot of money.

The Yanks reward their players with huge contracts. Jeter, Mo, Posada, Pettitte. All have lucrative contracts. All from the farm system. Cano will be loaded – came from the farm system. Chamberlain, Hughes – farm system. Mets aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Yanks will be in the playoffs next year. They’ll continue to spend money, continue to develop talent, and continue their success for a very long time.

Don’t listen to Ilya, he’s never had the pleasure of sinking himself into a moist teenage vagina

:banghead

How many years have they been buying up all of the best talent? And how many years have they actually won? Last year was the first year in 9 (2000 was their last WS) that they won the World Series. I’m not comparing them to the Mets, but they get beat by teams which spend less and develop young talent. See the FL Marlins in 2003. The Marlins are historically a cheap ass team and yet put enough together to beat an overpaid Yankees team.

If they develop young talent, I think they’ll be able to sustain what they have going on instead of bringing in a bunch of new guys each year to replace someone who just so happened to not perform the year before. They go through players like I go through socks. The Farm system was developed/designed for a reason. If the Yankees are so great at finding talent, why are they bringing in players that play the ‘talents’ position and force them to trade them as a ‘favor’ (your Scott Brosius example)? I’d take a young 23yr old player over someone making twice as much who is 30 any day of the week.

Also, who’s talking about the Mets? I was in no way, shape, or form comparing them to the Yankees. The Yankees bring in a lot more players it seems than most teams each off season (Teixeira, Damon, Clemens, etc.). Obviously, they can afford to, but maybe it’s the college fan in me but I believe you need to develop players. That’s just me though.

so the red sox made just as many moves if not more, in the offseason, are you saying they need to develop more talent too? because both of these teams are historically strong and talented.

i know and understand what your saying but your just picking on the yankees because you expect success every year after they go out and spend RIDICULOUS amounts of money and dont win lol.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. If you’re going to spend that much money, at least get to the WS year in and year out.

Baseball is my least favorite sport of the major 4, but it still amazes me how much they spend and how little meaningful stuff they win (with that payroll, 5 WS in 20 years isn’t all that great). As any sport fan will tell you, regular season hardly means anything come playoff time. I don’t give a shit if they win all the regular season games.

For example. I’m a huge Miami Heat fan. We just signed Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh and some good role players this offseason (completely re-did our team). People are saying, if they gel, they might challenge the 72 win record that the Bulls set. I don’t care about that, but if they don’t make it to the Finals, the season is a disaster. Similar thing with teams like the Yankees and Sox who pay a lot every year. They better be DAMN GOOD. And since they aren’t some years, it just goes to show that buying up all the best talent or spending so much isn’t the definite way to do it when it comes to building teams.

you do realize that a season is 162 games plus playoffs, you have to play good the ENTIRE season, you cant have an “off” week in baseball b/c thats anywhere from 4-7 games, that could mean the out come of a season. football for instance you can have an off week and possibly still remain competitive.

i think if you played a sport you would understand that EVERY game counts and is competitive regardless if your playing the marlins or playing the yankees, every game is a win and every game counts.

you cant say that a game doesnt count in ANY of sport

They count, but the playoffs (obviously) count more. Hence, teams are judged by what they accomplish in the post season. And frankly, IMO, with the Yankees having the payroll they have, they should be in the ALCS (at LEAST) EVERY. FRICKEN. YEAR. But that’s just me.

hahah oh absolutely the should be, as a fan, if they dont i get pissed off :lol. if they dont make it to the post season, its the end of the world and everybody considers that team a complete failure. but i guess thats just the game, love to hate it, hate to love it…
