Prez Obama says 'no more handouts'. US automakers get a deadline

The problem they have is that instead of coming out with a solid product, they rush and just come out with whatever and they they change parts to fix problems and it makes it difficult to source it out. when i was working for part source, i cant remember for which ford, but one of them had like 6-7 difference alternators for the same chassis. problems like that is what sank them. They were thinking quantity over quality and even though its a race to produce a good car fast, it doesnt help that the car isnt as good as its advertised to be.

DO you know how much the CEO gets as a bonus?

Former General Motors Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner won’t get a severance payment from the automaker, but he’ll still get a pension and other benefits worth an estimated $23 million.

In nearly 32 years with the company, Wagoner accrued pension benefits that the company valued at $22.1 million at the end of last year. The actual amount Wagoner will receive could vary because it will be paid in installments over the rest of his life.

I realize this is an innapropriate question, but how much do you make? How much do your parents make?
Everytime I’ve seen the wages of auto workers publicized, they are MONSTROUSLY overpaid. There are line workers out there with zero education that are easily doubling my take home, if not tripling. Meanwhile I hold a Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace, and work in the Aerospace industry. You know how much we pay our workers? $10/hr. We’re not unionized. If they don’t like it, they can go elsewhere. This is why we’re profitable, because we’re not paying every Joe in the plant $30-40 hr to do nothing all day.

i gotta say, GM and Chev pick ups are the best

+1 tand truthfully i cant wait for all the caw plants to close down and all these people used to making tons of money with no education have no jobs and no money then you can go out into the real world and see what its like

Any plants I know of only paid their normal workers about $23-ish/hr. The tradesmen got $30+/hr.

$23/hr is insane for highschool dropouts.

Not a single person I worked with was a high school dropout.

the problem with Gm, Ford and chrysler was that the never adopted ,Edward Demings quality control principles after the war. The japanese did. Mr Deming’s principles saturate japanese bussiness and manufacturing culture .The auto giants consulted him in the 1980’s but they still wouldn’t adopt all his methods. In an interview over 25 years ago,he was asked if the american auto sector would catch up to the japanese. he said, NO CHANCE!

That’s a LOT of money man, and with what qualifications? An OSSD? Please. The CAW is the reason why people thought, and still think that a real education is a waste of money, and simultaneously the reason why the auto industry is bankrupt. You don’t pay grunts $23/hr, you pay them barely above minimum wage. If they don’t like it, you replace them.

but I imagine that some of that work would drive you mental ,so you offer good pay and the people will stay

If you worked at the oshawa plant you would be singing a different tune.

$23, plus all the benefits they get makes it even more upsetting.

I truely hope those union fuckers get broken up and canned.

The automakers need to have a backbone like walmart, the day a union starts in walmart is the day they close shop.

Word. That’s how the owner runs the company I work for. He’s a cheap SOB and pays me badly, so I’m only staying as long as I have to, but I respect him cause he knows how to run a business.

unions do play there part, but whenever the contract expires, they’re always wanting more, what was wrong with what you already have? are the working conditions really that bad?

unions are obselete…they do nothing but take workers money nowadays…

What i think they should do is, Finish off Gm and Chrystler. Then open New plants such as Nissan, Honda , Toyota hyundai and all of the automotive companies that are doing well to aid the workers who lost there jobs at the american plants. They will get less money but there work will be done with quality.

Enough is enough. There should be no toleration for these companies. They dug there own grave now let us pile the dirt on top.

Speaking of unions, you think auto workers are bad? What about TTC ticket collectors that make 100k a year?
I’m not making that up, look at the list of public servants making over six figures a year, you WILL find ticket collectors on there.
Meanwhile we have some of the shittiest transit service and they hike their prices all the damn time. I remember that shiet being 2.25!
IMO, all unions need to burn in hell and die.

True, they are overpaid, but not as overpaid as some people are saying (I’ve heard figures of $30/hr-60/hr, which just doesn’t happen from what I’ve seen).

That being said, Toyota/Honda pays the same, if not better. A lot of people were leaving where I was working for more money working at the toyota plant.
