Randy Moss

My cousin is 9 and will be starting pee-wee football or whatever the hell its called next fall. I’ll be teaching him a football celebration for him to do when he hopefully scores…

It’s called the Larry Fitzgerald. Hand the ball to the offical, act like you’ve been there before. Anyone remember how much press and love Fitz got for doing that? We need more people in the game like him.

And I’ll be damn sure to tell my referree buddies that if my cousin pulls some shit, to toss his little ass out of the game.

I know high school and the NFL is different, but I’m starting to see more celebrations in the high school end of it. And every time they do something stupid, I get angry and throw the yellow hanky… As long as the competition is interscholastic, there should be no celebrating at all…

Hopefully kids can learn to emulate the guys on saturday instead of the guys on sunday.

hopefully they don’t watch division 1 football then. i have to drink pepto to watch teams like FSU.

“barry makes his best moves on the way to the end zone” thats how you should be but I do like to see that guys have some personality and show emotion or else it would be like watchin programmed robots play.

I agree 100% with emotion, but like I said when it become taunting and making fun of other people on the field it should be flagged as such.

did you ever play high school or college sports? were you ever in the middle of a good game and score, or be part of a big play… you get excited… high school IS the place to celebrate… dance, most definitely not. do some little trick like pulling out a phone or sharpie or whatever, bad idea… celebrating with your teammates is what high school sports is all about, being a team…

with that said, i believe moss’s actions are blown way out of proportion… i hate the viks, but think what he did was fine… T.O. ripped down a sign hung in the end zone, imo thats way worse… the sign wasn’t his, blah blah blah… moss didn’t do anything to anyone, he didn’t show his bare ass, he didn’t bring any props onto the field that shouldn’t have been there, he didn’t destroy anything that wasn’t his… people need to get off his back.

I don’t have the least bit of a problem with celebration with teammates (jumping on each other, hi fiving, etc…) but once an individual starts to do something that draws attention to himself and himself only, then it is a serious problem and every single high school official will throw that flag, guaranteed.

Yes, I played high school sports… I had the opportunity to play D1-AA football but got hurt… You dont have to tell me what athletic competition is all about. But, I was raised to respect my opponents and to beat them with my physical and mental ability, not to show them up with my celebration. I’d much rather run a mean post-corner route and tap down my inside toe to complete the catch for a touchdown that do the neion deion high step into the endzone and then choose one of the celebrations from “Any Given Sunday”.

The best face you can get on an opponents face is the one where oyu know you have him beat, and he knows it to. And there isn’t a damn thing they can do about it. Fuck celebrations… Some people like them, and thats fine… But I’d rather beat them with my play and my ability instead of my choreography.

meh, im not ready to jump on that bandwagon. People need to raise their own damn kids. Sports figures are not role models. They are sports players. They are exceptionally good at playing a game. Thats all. They need to stop acting like fucking retards because it makes them look like…well…fucking retards. :hs:

If kids look at football players for anything other than entertainment, the parents did something wrong.

i somewhat disagree. i used to look up to sportsplayers and pretend i was them when i was little. i think i was raised fine. i used to try to highstep like deion when i played football w/ my dad and brother and my dad would get pissed. but i thought it was cool. so do kids imitate their favorite athletes, yeah. so they do need to keep that in check, but i do think that the media is blowing the Moss thing up more than it needs to be.

If your parents got pissed and told you to stop acting like a pro athlete then I think you were raised properly (although you do like GM, so something went wrong somewhere).

I :dunno: where the line is. I just hope I teach my kids that pro atletes are mostly fucked up and not to look up to them but to look up to someone who actually contributes to society in a good way.

I say BIG FUCKING DEAL. Some stuff is good for the game. what wrong with that!!!

i can believe that this thread is still active

in high school and college, some blame needs to go to coaches and school. Central don’t put up with that shit. Jarvis did the simple flip to the ref and he was done. i can remember a game against penn hills when i was in HS and victor strader “jigged” it up the whole sideline on the way to the end zone.

the way i read the post i replied to i was under the impression you weren’t for anything other than handing the ball to the ref, but i see we are on the same page… i played soccer (is that a sport?) and goals come around a lot less than touchdowns normally, so i got to see quite a bit of celebration each time someone scored… i was never for that either though, just a high five (no butt smacks like other pro sports) on your way back to your side of the field…

commenting on the “larry fitzgerald” flipping the ball to the ref, PSU prides itself in doing that. Joe Pa tries to instill that in all of his players and it shows… he is all about the team, which is why PSU has one of the most bland uniforms in college ball, and they don’t have names on the back of their jerseys. Larry Johnson, former PSU running back, was on an ESPN highlight duing the regular season when he scored (forget what team he plays for). he regained his balance in the endzone and handed the ball to the ref then started walking back to the sideline while his teammates were dancing around him… soooo, let’s call it doing the PSU!

so r u incinuating that Fitzgerald played for PSU???  or am i just reading it wrong :kekegay:

not at all… i know he played for pitt, just stating that PSU started the whole non-celebration theory…

moss got a 10,000 dollar fine!

:embarassd , i figured thats what u meant. it was just worded alittle wierd, so i was bustin your balls.

that’s such bullshit

fuck the NFL

well, fuck them once the steelers suck again in a few years

better than the $25000 he got for squirting the ref w/ the water a few years ago. but either way,it wont matter to him

he said is that it!!
