Rewiring a house? Cost? NOW WITH DIY

Tpgsr is replacing the outlet better than the prong adapters for the laptops and such?

If there’s no ground to the receptacle one isn’t really better than the other. There still isn’t adequate means for the equipment ground.

Fuck Shanor… Rexel is in Cheektowaga, and I can deliver.

I have hundreds of each in stock. Since I write it through my company I just charge you what my employee cost or contractor cost is (whatever is better). All I get out of it is an inventory turn. You can use any GFCI device you want so long as it is the correct amperage configuration for the supply wire. In the kitchen a lot of people like to “Cheap out” and only buy one or two GFCI devices and wire all of the rest of the circuits from the load terminal. I do not like this method personally. For the extra $50 or so bucks, make all of the kitchen devices GFCI so that if one trips you are not taking out the entire circuit. How annoying is it to have to reset the clock on your stove, microwave etc… because the blender tripped the GFCI?

Also I recommend using only 15A devices anywhere that you can get away with it. The code specifies 20A in some areas, but like I said before, you can wire an entire house on 12GA wire and use all 15A devices. I cant say that I have ever plugged something in that was a 20A plug configuration.

Oh, lots of little notes… You should be using Tamper Resistant receptacles. It is in the newest code and if you plan on having children it is an inexpensive piece of mind.

Cost for a 15A GFCI

GFTR20W - $18.19 (This is a tamper resistant GFCI)

Cost for a 20A GFCI
GF15WLA - $7.32
GFTR15W - $16.95 (This is a tamper resistant GFCI)

Nice, let me get a count on the outlets and I’ll get back to you. Right now in the kitchen they’ve got a 4 gang and 6 gang outlet thing going on (Not my work or idea). Who the fuck is plugging in 10+ things on counter? Also moving my fridge should be a 220 right? What do you recommend for garage/outdoors?

The fridge is just a standard 15A receptacle. It should be on its own circuit I believe. Is the garage attached or detached?

If he’s going to hook you up make a count and go through him. I was just saying stay away from home depot and lowes. Especially since there are supply houses closer to you than both the big stores.

And I agree with the kitchen GFCI thing. Really how many kitchen receps can you have?

Edit: Damn I guess a lot!

Garage is “semi-attached” through the breezeway/Florida room. It was originally detached when the house was built though. It has a garage door opener, which is on a switch, so if the switch is off it kills power to the opener. There is one three prong in the garage that is not grounded (tested during inspection). The garage door opener is also plugged into one of those light bulb receptacle outlet combos. Similar to this:

I would need 2 MAYBE 3 GFCI in the kitchen for stuff I think. There is a GFCI in the bathroom that is grounded and does properly trip.

Bump, not sure if you got my PM but I could use about 30 of those 15A outlets.
