I’m going to post all the changes I’m doing to the house here (obviously). Most are minor compared to other thread, I’m not doing any major expansions or anything like that yet.
Day 2, My father in law replaced 4 door knobs with keyed door knobs all on the same key and installed two deadbolts to the main entries of the house. He brought a kit for drilling the deadbolt positions and man did that make it easy.
Everything in the house is white…the ceilings, the doors, the windows, the walls. Needed to change that. Here is our bedroom:
i use defiant as my construction locks on my rentals when i’m working on them…had someone seemingly try pretty hard to pop one of them and was apparently unsuccessful as they went on to break a basement window and get themselves pretty cut up before calling it a night…so they hold up reasonably well to a stupid burglar at least.
Last photo is from my parents house. There is a lot of dish soap, considering the DISHWASHER is to the right of the sink lol.
I put in shutoff valves in the kitchen for the water in my kitchen. Bought a middle of the road faucet for my house that I gotta install maybe this weekend. The cabinets and drawers suck, but we’re making do with some new hardware and a fresh coat of paint.
Hopefully Bobby (if willing) can assist me with that.
Good to know! My basement windows are glassblock so I mean…if they are really determined.
Fiancee got all the accessories in place in the bathroom. Looks good! That piece of shit lacy valance thing is going. Anyone know how to install a exhaust fan for the bathroom?
Hey John do me a favor and contact your Dad’s buddy (the inspector) and see if Tonawanda allows for separate grounds to be run from each outlet to the panel or grounding electrode system. NEC allows for it but certain authority’s having jurisdiction (ie: the inspectors) do not.
If they don’t allow it then pulling new Romex is the only way.
The major concern I would have with shitty locks on a business is someone getting in via picking/bumping stealing something and not finding out about it for a while if ever.
Called the Town inspector last night and left a message.
<EDIT>
Just spoke with the Town inspector, and he said Tonawanda doesn’t have any rules against running grounds to existing outlets. Basically if you CAN do it, then go for it.
i have no doubt they can be picked…by what is clearly an experienced hand…in my town those aren’t the people randomly breaking into houses…based upon the damage to my door i would guess they had a flat head screw driver and maybe a small hammer…to which they held up well enough.
again the would-be burglar wasn’t too smart it would seem…they bashed out a basement window…crawled in over the broken glass seemingly causing a pretty serious wound based on the amount of blood left behind…proceeded upstairs to find something to put over the glass to crawl out…found a cabinet door…took it to the basement and put it over the glass…made at least 1 failed attempt to crawl out based on the smeared blood…then apparently a light went on in their head and they just left out the back door instead…
i’d rather have some shit-stain burglar bash up a cheapo lock set and door attempting to get in instead of bashing up a $50 set on a $300 door…because face it…you can put a really nice lock on any door but it the only thing that deadbolt engages is the little steel plate stapled to most prehung door frames- one swift kick is all it will take to get in anyway.
