Thats so awesome! I’m trying to get my bay that simple! I see chase-bays is making harness for Evos know!

:pedo4:

For some reason I lol’d hard at this.

The difference in the bays is staggering.

I am working on getting the car to run good now, and that is my newest challenge. I remember when I took the car for a test drive, it sputtered at WOT, but I figured it was plugs, or the tune. Since then, I have replaced the plugs, done an oil change, (all fluids actually), and installed the TephraMod v7 big map, and made my own timing map. I have the car idling great (even in the cold), I have part throttle timing better than stock, it’s running around town great!

Before I get into fuel tuning, I wanted to see if it gets any knock on the stock fuel map, so today I did a 3rd gear pull, and just like before, it breaks up really bad. Since I already did the plugs, it must be one ore more of the following:

  • dirty MAF
  • bad coil or wire
  • running SUPER ULTRA rich

After work I am going to clean the MAF and the air filter, and then try the coils and wires from my '06. If that doesn’t do it, then I guess I need to hook up a wideband, and see what the fuel is doing! It shouldn’t be too bad, but it’s just a little bump in the road. I am learning tons about tuning these cars with EcuFlash though. I am very pleased with how much I have learned in a week or so.

Good stuff

dont be a traitor and switch to the dark side

stock ecu FTW!

Stock ecu is the shit.

I read your thread where you had high idle on a cold start up after loading tephra map. I had the same problem, very annoying my car idled at 2k for like 5 mins.

I won’t complain one bit on my AEM results

Solved! I started a thread in the EcuFlash section on Evom. I found the correct Idle stepper start position tables, and values that work well, even in our climate. My car starts up at 1400 rpm, and is down to 1100 rpm or less within a minute!

Curious, do these cars all have idling issues or is this something that has to be fixed as a result of someone’s shity tune?

Yup. Good stuff, but that high idle was so annoying lol.

Stock the idle is fine, unless the biss screw oring is crap or on the 03 and I think the 04 too their IAC shits the bed. Mainly because they had a FIAV. Also add they come from the factory with bad throttle body shaft seals.

Otherwise idle is normal. Once you add cams and what not a tune fixes the idle issues that arise.

ive NEVER had idle issues, most people issues come from a shitty tune.

otherwise what the guy above me said lol

The idle issue I had is specific to the TephraMod v7 rom that I have. The creators of the rom posted in my thread what the cause of the idle issue is, which led to us to be able to solve it. Basically, the idle stepper motor initial positions are incorrectly set for cold climates, due to some other table being disabled in the TephraMod v7 rom. It’s an easy fix, but for a while, many didn’t know what to do.

It was very annoying having it idle at 2200 rpm, and it could be dangerous for people with built motors to have 100+ psi of oil pressure at cold start, so it’s definitely nice to have this solved!

Cleaning the MAF appeared to fix it! I did a 3rd gear pull today, and while a bone stock boost level Evo is as slow as sin, the car didn’t skip a beat.

Another good find, the clutch doesn’t slip at all, since I bought it. I was told it started to slip, but no matter what condition (2nd gear start, 3rd gear pull, etc…), I can’t get it to slip. I am very pleased with that!

Sounds good! Good to go DD.
