My problem is that he put effort into making it look janky and shitty. He could’ve bought or sourced more appropriate looking switches. He could’ve put the starter on a push button momentary switch instead of an on/off switch. He could’ve tidied his wiring… the list goes on. Yeah it’s mechanically sound and well built in the sense of the suspension and drivetrian, but it’s obvious he put effort into making it obnoxiously shitty looking. There’s a difference between not caring (read: ziptie stitched bumper, stripped interior), and trying to look like a Mad Max extra. I also question that he actually invested $13K into it, maybe that’s what the parts all cost new, but that’s a pretty decent wage, even if you don’t have any bills. He still has to put gas in it, pay insurance, probably a cellphone… You get the picture. I see potential in what he did, but I think he junked it up just a bit too much. It’s ok. I was 18 once too.
BTW, the 15 minutes comment was a little tongue in cheek.
Oh it definitely could have and should have been done in just as inexpensive ways and made to be nicer looking. Seems like he just said fuck it and ran with whatever worked and once it worked he never went back to tidy it up lol
You guys need to remember that 1/2 of the design is purposely done as a joke or to troll as he said. I think its bad ass, its super raw. Its similar to why I purchased an E36 M3 over an E46 5 years ago, or why I purchased my 97 Viper (no abs, no traction control, no bullshit!).
If you want a plush “sports” car go buy a $13K 350z. This hand built Mazda no doubt will DESTROY it on the road or track but hey at least the 350z would look like every other car, have mediocre performance, and probably have like 4 cup holders.
Nothing these days. sold it hahah.
I would say I could rebuild the miata for 10 minus the cost of car. That includes 2ish for suspension and tires.
Cheaper if I went iron block and all used parts/junkyards/hacked it together.
I have double that into my car and its more of a piece of shit with out trying to make it a piece of shit. Little things add up wayyyyy more than you can ever estimate.
