So i've been thinking about going to the dark side..

they only status you’d get out of this is that of a poser…
most people woudn’t know the difference between a ninja 250 and cbr rr, that has been my experience even before I removed the ass-ugly fairings from mine.
and those that would are not likely to be impressed by the skills you can attain by starting on that bike and riding it once a week.

ducati’s from everything i’ve read/seen outhandle alot of bikes…

Famous last words. That’s all I’ve got to say. They’re gonna be peeling you off the pavement if you run out and get a Ducati for your first bike.

:idiots Sign your ass up for the HVCC course (I know 2 ppl who just dropped out of a July course because their friend just went down on his Harley and is in a coma… so their spots may still be open), learn moves that will save your life, and start on a 600 or smaller.

The bike is only as good as the rider, which is the point I’ve been trying to make the whole thread.

well, you finally figured out how to say it.

All im saying is, everyone is a statistic… the people who have bikes that they haven’t dropped, don’t post, OMG i didnt drop my bike, so you don’t hear those stories. everyone posts when they wreck, and how bad they are fucked up. I have my car to go fast, so thats not why i want it. I like the way they sound, and if you are saying to get a 600, or less, a 848 weighs 370lbs, not much more than most 600’s.

interesting…

Ducati 848 dry weight: 370lbs
R6 dry weight: 366lbs
CBR600RR full weight: 410lbs (can’t find curb, guessing bout the same… weird!)
GSX600 dry weight: 359lbs
Ninja 636 dry weight: 362lbs

So… why do people recommend 600’s or less? Looks like if i got ANY of those 600’s it would be just about the SAME weight to play with. Not to mention the ducati outhandles them all, looks better, is WAY less common, and sounds 10x better.

because ducs are twitchy high-performance exotics.
it’s more about the horsepower than weight.

I don’t think people are saying your decision is foolish based on weight, but rather on power. you can go get a 600lb harley and it’ll be way “safer” than this 400lb ducati

Yes, dear, the Ducati is an absolutely beautiful/amazing/fast bike, but for a BEGINNER… that’s just an idiot move. Obviously it’s your money, your life, so you can and will do whatever you please with it.

But it’s Darwinism. Those kinds of bikes should only be in the hands of experienced people who know how to handle that type of power. Not anyone who has $13,000 to throw around.

Motorcycles are SO dangerous. Even if you’re not doing stupid things like wheelies and 160mph, all you have to do is hit a teensy pothole, pebble, puddle, and you are down. And there’s very little between you and the pavement.

I know I don’t know you, and you seem very hard-headed, so I doubt any of this will make any impact. But I guess it doesn’t hit you until you’ve been on a memorial ride for a downed rider, seen the site where someone died on their motorcycle, or have a friend who’s lucky to have his life after an accident, even though his injuries will prevent him from ever riding again.

IDK, it’s your life, if you want to risk it, that’s completely your choice.

i understand what your saying, but if i pay 12grand for a bike, i’m not going to go romp on it like i’m the shit. I will obviously brush up on some basic’s, and get my bike license, and then the ducati. But to say learn on a 600, is pretty pointless if the ducati is the same thing, with more power. i can drive my car under 3grand normal and you couldnt tell it from any other civic. Not to say bikes are like cars, but if you don’t mash the throttle like a moron you should be ok.

Weight has very little play in this if not non.

I don’t even recommend the 600 as a beginner bike, maybe a “cruiser” style sport bike like the CBR F4, or YZF6. You won’t see me recommend a race bike as a first bike.

Inline4’s and Vtwin’s are completely different beasts and require completely different riding strategy, where you have to “wind up” an inline, High HP (848) Vtwin’s are more of an on/off switch, where in a turn under acceleration it would have no problem breaking the back tire loose sending you on a new trajectory. Twin’s are also notorious for very heavy engine breaking which in a turn again will unsettle the rear to the point where you wouldn’t know what to do with it.

Out handles them all? Yeah if you’re doing. You won’t come close the handling potential of the bike for years, especially if you start on it.

Sounds? looks? sexiness? Poser material ::slight_smile:

i’m not that hardheaded. i get what you are saying, but my point is i wanted opinions on the bike… not if you think i should get it or not. I could hit a pebble, puddle, or pothole, on any 250, dirt bike, busa, whatever and be down. If its something beyond my control obviously i’ll drop the bike, no matter what bike i’m on. All i’m saying, is if i get the 848 and ride it slow till i get comfrotable i think ill be alright.

p.s. just about any bike is a panty-dropper; as stated before, few girls will know the difference between a Ninja and a Ducati; don’t get it as your first bike solely for status reasons… your ego should not be so dependent on your bike’s CC’s

c’mon man, you know that logic doesn’t work. Thats like someone giving you a huge single turbo supra for the day as long as you don’t let it spool… yeah rrright :lol

Then to answer your question, it’s an absolutely stunning bike. I started in awe and drooled over them at Phibb’s when I was shopping for my first bike a couple weeks ago.

And, white bikes > * :bowdown

Alright. I’m your friend Swift. So I’m gonna say this as your friend.

  1. If you want to spend that much money on a bike, cause it’s what you really want, then whatever. Do it. If you don’t care about dropping it, or causing damage to a bike like that, then don’t let anything anyone says about that bother you.

  2. Please take into consideration what people are saying to you about power to weight. Please. It’s the same thing as your Civic vs. a stock one for example. They might weigh about the same, but yours has a hell of alot more power. Potentially more dangerous. Yes all bikes are dangerous, but just think about it. Half the time an accident happens, it’s not the biker’s fault. People are not aware of bikes, AT ALL.

  3. Alot of my friends ride. I have seen more accidents this year than in a long time. I’ve gotten that phone call that your good friend is in the hospital from a bike accident. It sucks. Do not be a reason to make me get that phone call again. Just last night I talked to a good friend who told me he doesn’t even like riding his bike around here anymore because it’s gotten so dangerous, and he’s one of the only people I would trust my life to and get on the back of his bike.

Just think about it. Okay?

you say you wont speed till the first time you feel that bikes power and than thats all youll do untill your scare your self

yah but the difference would be if the supra was yours and you just spent all your savings on it. You might think twice about flipping it over into a ditch.

I want what i want i guess. Just cause you have something fast, doesnt mean you have to use it. I may be slightly retarded, but i didnt even beat on my car until i felt comfortable driving it. And i still keep it somewhat slower when i have passengers. If i was riding a ducati i seriously would care less who is around or how fast i want to go, until i feel safe going that fast.

Just because i havent ridden a bike on the street, also doesnt mean i don’t know how they work. It just means i need to put what i know and apply it. And i’m not gonna hop on, do a burnout and go flying down Rt. 9 when i first figure it out.

maybe its not the learning that people have issues with, its the self control. I do what i want, if i feel like not speeding, i’ll not speed all i want. I dont think its the bikes, sounds like its the self control.

There is a reason why most seasoned riders will tell you not to get that bike Swift.

Would you recommend your car to some 16 year old who just got his license? What if he promised you he won’t speed or get on it? What if he said he’s mature? Now imagine if your car could fall over at any moment in time as well.

i’m not 16, and my car is faster than that bike. So i’ve been fast, now i want a sexy good sounding bike that matches me car.

i’m not trying to be hard-headed. i do understand all of what you have said.
