Well you have to remember just how awful the average driver is in the first place, then factor in a cell phone as a distraction and yeah they’re pretty much fucked.

I get on I90 by xgates and the traffic there was stopped! it took me 45 minutes to go 2 miles. let do the out of box thinking… and say this person crashed because they were talking on the cell phone & they cant pay enough attention to control their car.
How many cars sat there X how much gas everyone burned idling punching the gass to go 5 feet then jamming on the brakes. How many people burned up some clutch life sitting there. Stress, aggravation, maybe people missed dinner with their family, or even worse thing because they sat there bumper to bumper.
Want some money making ideas NYS. Retest people for drivers licenses. If NYS can restrict a drivers license, common sense says one can add options to it as well. Why not pay $50 to be able to take a drivers test for driving with a cell phone? Do a road test with a cell phone hanging off your ear. You pass you get a little cell phone image added to your license.
This guy I know works for Jaguar in FL. He has a special addition to his license that allows him to top cars out on a specific road, at a specific time.
There should be a “because I can” clause to different laws.

You all think this is a great law until you get wrongfully accused of texting while driving and have to pay a fine for something you didnt do. Also if texting is illegal how bout we make using a gps illegal. Or how bout eating while driving or changing the song on your ipod or changing the radio or changing the heater setting. How about the boneheads shaving, doing makeup, or reading, how bout making all this illegal because I can be distracted by this and get in an accident as well.
Pretty soon they’ll mandate that you have to have 2 hands on the wheel at all times :haha

theres a way to prove u didnt text. if ur phone record doesnt have a text at the time stamped on the ticket, you didnt text, it gets thrown out.
i agree that cops are going to be wrongly accuse people of this i have an i-phone and can do a ton of things other than texting with my phone.
not to mention the other day i got pulled over for going throught a yellow light and thats bull shit cops using things like a texting law to pull you over and try and find other things that are wrong with your car

Yeah, it would be somewhat easy to get out of a ticket like that provideing you had phone records to show you were not texting. All in all though it would just waste your time and get you aggrivated. I like the idea of not being able to use your cell phone/text while you drive. To many people have almost caused me to get into accidents because they’re too busy yapping/txting on their phone dont pay attention slam on their brakes last minute causing me to slam on mine etc etc. There are a million differant scenarious and things that I have experianced due to people talking on the phone or doing whatever else.
The fact that people can sit there and stuff their face with a greasy cheesburger while driving pisses me off to. No joke, completely serious i have almost gotten rear ended a few times due to some asshole/bitch that were generaly in the heavy club who were not able to wait to get home to stuff their fat ass faces with their quarter pounders.
The reason my father was in his accident on duty and why we almost lost our house and pretty much everything we own was due to some cunt that decided she wanted to do her makeup and hair while she was driving, and hit the back of my fathers police jeep at 50+ mph. She claimed their was no lights, flares and that she coudlent see him, when in fact her own mother got on the stand and told everyone she wasnt paying attention and doing whatever else and in fact my father had his lights on.
So yes, I take people doing dumb shit while driving kind of personaly. Not to say I dont pick up my phone from time to time, but generaly ill say let me call you bac kim in the car. If its that important ill pull off the the side of the road.
They already have laws for all the above. Driving is a simple concept. Make the car go from point A to B in a safe manor. Keep it between the lines, at the posted speed, and dont interfear with other driver in such a way that will impare them to get from point a to b safely aswell. aftermarket GPS is illegal. Obstruction of view. Eating or drinking (non alcholic beverage), changine the radio, catching road head, lighting a stogie, punching your anoying kid in the back seat… if these casue you to loose proper controll of your vehicle… you get the resulting ticket.
But for most of those, there isnt a direct ticket. if a cop sees you lighting a stogie thats cool, but if your lighting a stogie and you swirve or something stupid while doing it then you get the resulting ticket.
But a cop doesnt see you lighting a ciggerate and pull you over saying, do you know why I pulled you over? Lighting a ciggerate while driving… id prolly laugh my ass off and drive away
