I’ve owned 3 pugs, one of them for 11 years, another one for 6 years and we’ve never had to pop their asses. Two or three times the younger one has had that smelly asshole, but we just let the vet take care of it. I’d take that any day over a drooling dog.

Eh, don’t let that stop you. You almost never have to do it. Pugs are just one breed that it’s a bit more common in than others. But as mentioned even with pugs it’s not “common.”
