Where the list comes from:

quote:
The formula for calculating the Top Rated 250 Titles gives a true Bayesian estimate:

weighted rank (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C where: R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating) v = number of votes for the movie = (votes) m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 1300) C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 6.8)
for the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.

My number one movie would have been…Blazing Saddles! Thats some funny shit right there. Number two pick…Aliens…James Cameron flicks are good except…maybe (Titanic) WTF was he thinking?

I’ve only seen 10 of those.

19

I’ve seen 47 out of the 50. I have a collection of 731 DVD’s, 52 laser discs, and 206 vcr tapes, not counting what I just rent and watch. Ask Firehawk853 if you don’t believe me. Been collecting movies for about 12 years now. Don’t know why, because I only watch each movie once or twice. Just a hobby.

That’s a crazy collection. I don’t get to watch to many movies… that’s why my number was so low.

I work with Firehawk853. Part of our job is to listen to audio all day and debug hardware and software problems. Why not watch movies with audio while you are trying to find bugs with hardware and software. Sounds fun, but its not always a party. Thats how I have gotten such a large collection and seen so many movies.

seen 23 of em

I think shawshank redemption is a really good movie, but for some reason Im really surprised that its so high on that list

I agree…and I’m also surprised The Green Mile is not in the top 50 (Tom Hanks). That was a very good movie. Hey, If Shawshank made it why not the green mile. My opinion.

im suprised momento is #22. it was a good movie. but i wouldnt say #22 good.

The problem with where they get their numbers from is that the people that they poll have not seen all 250 movies. They just get asked what their favorite movie is. If I ask 100,000 people what their fav movie is, this is the result I would get. The numbers get skewed because not everyone has seen all of the movies and can then pick which is their favorite. That is where the numbers get F**ked up. If 51% of the people they polled only saw the movies that made it into the top 25 then automatically those are the top 25 movies. Or maybe the numbers are slightly different but you know where I’m coming from…Too many of these right now:beer2: but they taste good.
