upgrade memory

SO at work I have a dell dimension 4500, its over 2 years old. Boss does not want to buy a new computer. I desperitly need to upgrade the memory for all the 3d modeling/rendering I do and need some insite.

Specs of what it has now-
256 MB DDR SDRAM, PC2100 / 266 MHz, Non-Parity, Unbuffered
Package Type: 184-pin DIMM
Logical Type: 32x64
Speed: PC2100 / 266 MHz
Description: Non-Parity, Unbuffered

Dell sais I can upgrade up to-
Maximum Memory: 1024 MB.
Number of Slots: 2

Dell also wants $80 for just a 512 stick, fuck that. How cheap can I upgrade to 1g, and is it also true than I can only go upto a 1g. Why cant I go up to 2g with two 1g sticks?

Motherboard probably won’t support anything higher, you could try it but I wouldn’t gaurantee any results.

Ya,its 2700 but DDR is backwards compatible.Screw Dell.

EDIT* might want to find a DDR 3200 kit,so if you upgrade you can still use it.

Nut his computer, or his money

thanks guys.
