Votblindub's system

I know you’ve got some well laid plan, we need input! Pics and goals, no more holding out on us.

Oh boy.

I’m expecting a 3 page response, no less.

Vadim has always had some serious set ups.

well ;D since its starting to warm up :mwahaha
Ive got all my equipment sitting in boxes waiting to go right back in. This new system is going to be a step up from the Eclipse. Those of you that heard it know what that sounded like and this is going to obliterate it in a flash. I’m going with a wider sound stage this time, so the sound focus will be different(which means MORE tuning time) but it should come out quite nice. I have also upgraded a few things for the new setup for the A6. There is going to be significantly more Dynamat in more places and even multiple layers. I’m insulating everything I can get to in the car, eventhough it already comes with a large amount of factory installed insulation(which is just like Dynamat, but no shiny surface on it, its all black). The front doors are pretty much done. The door skins are completely wallpapered top to bottom, side to side. All the pillars and support beams inside the doors are covered. I spent a few hours just knocking on the door in different places with my knuckles listening to clunks and all kinds of weird noises that arent supposed to be there. Im confident that I’ve elimitated at least 90% of the random noises in the doors. The inside of the door panels are all dynamated. All the wires are in the open for maintenance access. This was a very tricky part. I had to cut the dynamat into a few hundred of small 1x2 inch pieces and basically tile the curved and tricky surfaces of the door panel, get under and around the wires and plugs to make sure its all still there if i have to get to it. I’m going to be running all new wires into the doors because I dont want to use the factory wiring. theres nothing wrong with those, but i figure if im investing all this time in the car, i may as well do everything. i’m planning to purchase new higher grade RCA and signal wires for everything. Ive also upgraded the speakers themselves from the D series i ran all the way to Q, only keeping the diamter of 6.5 inches the same. Im using titanium tweeters as opposed to aluminum, ceramic or silk because i prefer a brighter tweeter and Q series MB Quart titaniums really do it for me. The mids will be set up slightly different from my eclipse. in the mitsu they sat on dynamated mdf panels bolted to the metal of the doors. in the A6 theyre going to be sittin on dynamated mdf panels that sit on the inside of dynamated door panels. obviously this is going to add some crazy weight to my car, but i dont give a shit. its got enough power to move at a decent clip and more weight means less vibration. so far i have about 20+ pounds per door in insulation, which is only going to increase in weight after the mdf panels, speakers and a lot more Dynamat. after thats completed i’m going to work on sitting the tweeters in the doorpanels so that theyre just right, which will probably be a week or so at least. after running all the wiring for the doors the headunit is going it. im keeping my eclipse for at least one more year. its an amazing unit, it holds a staggering 8v rms on the outputs all day and sounds super clean. basic and advanced settings are going to stay flat on it because im no longer using it for my crossovers, time allignment and the 10 band eq. im using the threesixty.2 for all of that. its going to basically be the brain. its going to handle ALL of the sound processing(its a linedriver, equalizer, it does the time allignment and all that deliciousness. it has something like 270 channels as opposed to only 10 on the headunit). keeping the deck and the 360.2 enables me to keep my signal digital which in turn means no distortion. after a couple more RCA’s at like 70 bucks a foot(LOL i know im nucking futs :tong ) the signal pours into the MB Quarts speaker amp. that will push it out at 100 watt RMS per speaker. thats going right back upfront into the new wiring into the doors. i’m keeping my JL Audi W7 12" woofer because I’m in love with it and Ive had it for years and its basically the only original piece of equipment i didnt change since i started building SQ systems. I’m going to run it thru one of the two rockford amps i have. they are kind of historic. art shaker used to have 38 of these in his white truck and took world finals in SPL several times. I own 2 of these amps. they have been modified to expell 2000 watts RMS vs the original 1500 peak(according to oem specs). I have the bd sync wire for the amps which will later allow me to use both amps in tandem to produce 4kilowatt RMS. for now i’m still using my capacitor but i plan to get an odyssey or a kinetik battery to hide in my quater panel in the trunk for additional juice. this will help level and steady the current so i can use the full 4kilowatt to run the W7. as far as enclosures go, im going to try to run this one as is, but if i dont like it im calling JL again and working with them to design a new enclosure and then build that to spec. im going to make a partial floor panel in the trunk to hold the damn near 100 pound enclosure in place to prevent it from sliding around and smashing into things in the trunk. there will be a slim 45-60 degree angled amplifier rack that will hold 2 amplifiers(2 for now till all 3 will live there), the cap and the 360.2 all that will be covered by somewhat of a wall. when u look in the trunk ull see a panel that goes side to side and top to bottom that looks like the factory interior of the trunk with just the woofer cone showing in the middle. i’m going for a super minimal(well at least visually) approach. i’m going to hide as many components as i can. it will all ofcourse be easily acessible by either folding the seats down or removing the panel. i’m going to take photos of everything so the judges can see, because most of the wiring and such will be hidden. as of right now now the car is prewired already. the power, ground, rca cables and the 9pin(this is an amazing thing) are all laid in and hidden. i only need to add small pieces of wire to go from where the deck sits into the doors and the wiring is pretty much all set. doors are mostly dynamated and just waiting for the mdf panels. ive put in about 2 weeks of work in the car and im only about 10% done at this point. after the equipment is in and tuned(thats a whole new thing too. this is going to take a day or two because this car is so different from anything ive ever worked on). after the car is operational(im never going to be happy untill i get rainbows and milbert tube amps) and then im going to start wallpapering the rest of the metal. im going to dynamat all of the trunk(sides, floor, trunk lid), the floor(pulling up seats and carpet and panels), going to cover as much of the firewall as i can get to and lastly the roof and pillars if i can without setting off my airbags. the car going to gain about 300+ pounds after im done with it but it will actually sound proper(as if my eclipse sounded like shit :crackup ) ive got some pics of the wiring and the dynamted doors at home and i can post some if you guys want to see
as far as long term plans go, they include the limited edition mb qart Q series speakers in kick panels and tube amps, then saving for a double din eclipse unit(6 dvd changer with harddrive) and eventually rainbows? heh. just those are a brand new civic’s worth, but it will make ppl cream their pants much more so than a civic

Cliffs? :lol

Paragraphs go a long way.

is that even possible? the eclipse was packed w/that and the foam like a mother. lol

that thing’s gotta weigh like 4500lbs :rofl

parawhat? LOL :lmao

with me in it? :nod yessir say good bye to mpgs in the low 20s, hello teens! :lol

oh yes, its possible. this is a german car, so no foam needed. theres no dead space in there, theyre quite tight under the panels, germans dont waste space with bubblicious panels. its just going to be an acre of dynamat in that sumbtich

The 9 pin cable is the digital cable between the head unit and the 306.2? Make sure you snap a picture of that cable, I’m curious what it looks like.

Nice, uh… summary :thumb

9pin is the 4 gauge sized cable that runs 9 regular cables in it for ease of laying it in. ur paying 1 single cable vs a gob of small ones. its speaker wires and the remote in it. ill take a pic of that. u can see it inside the car, its sitting on the floor by the front passengers legs and the other end is in the trunk

your nuts! lol

heh, i love doin that kind of stuff tho. just takes me forever. im anal when it comes to sound, it has to be just so. for home i dont worry that much but in the car it bothers me if its not how i need it.
i remember a while at one point some guy was searching my car for speakers. he was convinced that theres more than one sub producing the lows so i just told him to look for it and opened all the doors and the trunk. he was in there a few minutes then just left shaking his head. and some girl was sittin in there listening and then after we asked how many speakers are in there she said 15, and then i just pointed out 5 to her cuz thats all there was she couldnt believe it and was climbing around looking for the “other speakers in there” heheheh

wow…your nuts, i remember the eclipse…yikers

The only thing i have to say

:ahh :runaway :ahh
