the hydrostatic shock from the round hitting the melon at high velocities should be more than enough to blow it to bits i would think
I agree with this and actually wanted to post something similar… I’ve heard stories of people getting torn up pretty badly from M2 rounds coming too close without them actually hitting.
If its close and it didnt hit you but hit somthing near you, the shrapnel alone from a 50 cal round would be pretty bad, I wouldnt be surprised if you were seriously injured from the shrapnel or collateral damage from the bullet hitting (destroying) somthing close to you. If that watermelon was your head instead, most if not all of your brains would be blown out of your skull similar to the destruction of the watermelon.
