Some of the 01-02 Trans Ams/Z28s/SS’s (about 25%) had LS6 blocks and/or intakes with mainly LS1 internals in them… for some reason GM had a surplus of the LS6 blocks and just used them interchangably, either to go out with a bang for the lucky people that got them, or to make up for a shortage of LS1s/big pile of LS6’s.
I’m already running well enough to beat stock V8 4th-gens, from parts we’ve had laying around the garage/picked up from boneyards. Doing a GenIII swap would have cost me a LOT more than the $3500 or so I have invested (including the car, and the parts i have sitting in the garage that haven’t gone on yet). Vortech heads go new for about $500… find me a half-decent set of GenIII heads for that kind of money. Hell, I could have built a 406SBC+Commander 950 for what an LS1 swap would cost me.

Dude u need to get your shit straight and stop hanging out with bluez28. The only LS6 part gm used on a ls1 is the intake. Stupid mullet owner:rolleyes:

your telling us that your run in the 12s come on now. and you can do a
ls1 swap for cheaper than 3500. yo pewter i didnt know you had an ls6 block
in your car. and you can get gen III heads pretty cheap just got to know the right hookups.
im going to run 4.8 heads so i can bump up my CR than PP also. and these heads are aluminum
and i know of a car that only has head work and a cam and tunning running in the 11s on motor
stock internals.

what series of z06 intake do they have? isnt there a difference in them between
the two models 380hp and the 405hp
your telling me that those your cars have z06 blocks in them out in the yard.
whats the big difference.
does the intake say z06 or nothing? so how can you actually tell?

but how can you tell if the car has the block or not?
and if you have another z06 intake add that to my list for this winter
Get the casting numbers off the block, and run them through www.mortec.com. It’ll tell you if its an LT1, LT4, LS1, or LS6 block. You can check pretty much any Chevrolet V8 casting there. Except this one big block thats sitting in a friend’s garage. We can’t find the numbers anywhere… but that’s another story.
A stock 4th-gen Z28 will not run in the 12’s. It may not take too terribly much to get it there, but most are running mid or high 13’s from what I’ve seen around here.

a ls1 6spd will go high 12s stock.
Really? Motor Trend couldn’t get too many of them into the 12’s. Here’s a list of the 4 fastest 4th-gen quarters I’ve found, as printed.
1997 SLP Camaro SS: 13.20@108.8 (MT, Feb. 97)
1996 SLP Camaro SS: 13.46@106.4 (Muscle Car Review, Feb/Mar 96)
2000 Trans Am WS6: 13.50@107.4 (MT, Dec. 99)
2002 Camaro SS: 13.50@107.3 (MT, Dec. 01)
But interestingly enough:
1990 SLP Trans Am Firehawk: 13.20@107 (Car & Driver, June '91)
hot rod feb 98 (i think)atco raceway 98z28 STOCK 12.89!!!
tires & all
I couldnt get better than a 13.44 out of my 99 WS6 when I had it, but that was with crappy tires. I figure it would have been good for a 13.1 or so without traction problems. I didn’t get to keep it long enough to get decent tires or drag radials for it.

older issue of GMHTP had a 02 SS run 12.97 completely stock. on 17x9 with factory tires
youre also quoting MT do you really think that those drivers are aloud to beat
the shit out of the cars there testing.
your statement towards the 96,97 SS they were Lturd1s which i good for them
but dont underestamate ls1 and their drivers
We should stop spouting numbers, and just have me and PewterSS run first day PRP is open this spring… We could all find numbers to try and make each other look dumb all day long. [=
Oh, by the way, PewterSS, I think my firebird originally came from you. I have a JJ’s license plate frame on it. I can PM you the name of the previous owner if you want, it’s an R-title car.

Black 1992 Firebird w/ Grey interior, Originally 305TBI/A4, 62k miles when it was re-titled… looks like it was front end wrecked, but fairly light damage… no weld marks on the unibody that aren’t supposed to be there. Probably bought in 97 or so (I don’t remember) from a guy in North Huntingdon…
