#2 check!
I have seen rally wheels (which are 10x stronger than any other wheel) break before suspension. It all depends on how it gets hit. I popped a curb with my wrx and bent a control arm… cost me $20 for a new one. Would have cost me at least 50-75 for a used wrx wheel.
Joe, I don’t think your experience means shit, I think you are an exception to every rule. You must have a little voodoo car somewhere with a little kid throwing it across a room. I also remember your wheel shaking violently once because you forgot to tighten your lug nuts.
I like the second set bestest.
scope out ebay and lexus forums im sure you can find something sweet there
nope wasnt me. one time i swapped rear spacers to the front and vice versa and that caused a rub. no violent shaking due to something that dumb though, must have been someone else.
i might be the exception, but there are others who i know have had the same experience. and if you look at the way they assemble the wheel, it is less than inspiring.
Well the problem is that many people will have to run low profile tires when they get wheels for fitment purposes. That’s assuming they even took the time to figure out matching their overall stock diameter with the new setup. Since they don’t have the normal cusion from a bigger sidewall, that’s a bigger change the right offset manhole cover down past Jefferson ST or those TANK TRAPS around the same area are going to eat their lovely aftermarket wheel. You mustang boys don’t necessarily have that problem due to better clearance for bigger and fatter wheel combinations. Some of us import guys aren’t so lucky.
Bent rims cost more to repair than stock suspension as far as struts, and depending on the car are also less than replacement control arms (ASSuming you aren’t forced to replace with OEM only). Repair costs of wheels also vary if they are one piece, two piece or three. The multi piece wheels are cheaper because you can just by a $50 or 60 part, and bolt it on to the rest of the assembly. Again, you Mustang guys and some others have it a lot better than some of the import guys as far as wheel options.
If you have expensive aftermarket suspension, different circumstances. In which case killing the wheel might be preffered over broken $1000 coilovers and such.
I had a MISERABLE time finding wheels for my mustang as far as options. All thats available is the stupid fucking OEM reproduction wheels. Butt ass ugly bullits and all the other gay 5 star Me Too mustang junk. Its seldom you see a mustang with nice custom wheels that are outside of the oem 5 star box. Its that or you see tools with chrome homie wheels on what supposed to be a “muscle car”. sigh Some of these people have no sense of style whatsoever.
Anyway Im having Custom wheels made as we speak. Cut and welded. I’ll post pics when they arrive. (next week)
