I’m getting new wheels for spring… which ones? I can’t decide… I’ve seen so many sets of wheels on Zs that look good, but only a few that look good with my color car. I can’t buy silver wheels and won’t buy chrome. The wheels need to be 5-spoke design, and not detract from smooth lines of the car. I’ve narrowed it down between 2 wheels - 5Zigen FN01R-Cs and SSR GT3s. Each has its perks and downsides. And the SSRs cost about $1000 more… let me explain;
5Zigen FN01R-C
Hyper Black
17x8 Front
17x9 Rear
Pos +
Cheep price
Light weight
Color (looks real good with pearl paint)
Brand new
I can put any tires on that I want.
Neg -
Cheep price (entry-level wheel)
Overplayed (not on Zs, but many, many cars have these)
SSR GT3
Bright Satin
18x8 Front
18x10.5 Rear
Pos +
Hard to find (rare)
Bling factor
3-Peice wheels with LIP
Neg -
Hard to find (SSR no longer exists)
Need to run 20mm spacer in front
Wheels are USED (300 miles on them)
Wheels have Kumho 712s on them (crap)
Several people have had theirs crack
I have looked at others -
HREs wont be done by spring (custom color) and cost about $500 more than the SSRs w/o tires.
Volk Gramlites 57pro need to be shipped here… which takes 3 months. I can’t find a reputable supplier.
neither, the FN’s are too over played, your car deserves somthing thats really gona stick out, i dont mean redic stick out, but just something that you dont usually see, let me do some searchin, the gram lights would be nice tho…
The 5Zigens suck. They look plain and boring. Your car is not a Civic where every pound counts and thats where those wheels belong. Gramlights and all that other crap included.
I cant believe this is even a question. The SSRs bring out the sophistication and prestige your car deserves. Spend the extra grand. You will be really glad you did when you see these works of art on your car. Get the hyperblack centers. With a 10.5" rear you can safely run up to 315/30/18’s if you so desire. Personally I would try to keep the sidewall a little taller (about 40 series) if you can since the roads in Buffalo suck. There are no structural problems with SSR wheels. Ignorant people dont seem to understand that running a 30 series tire on any wheel and hitting large potholes at speed will cause damage. Cast wheels are thicker in the lip area and softer and will most likely bend instead of developing cracks but the damage is still there. Running low profile tires and large wheels reaquires people to drive with extra care.
i like the played-out cheap ones for pure aesthetics - they look beautiful on the car. i hate the look of bolt-holes on wheels, it doesn’t look good to me at all regardless of price or whatever else
The SSR’s look quite good, maybe a bit bling IMO (they look better on M3/M Coupe). If you were even thinking about HRE’s (bad choice IMO, bend/break/overpriced/shitty finish) you should look at Fikse.
