who makes this rear view mirror and how do you use it?

So after talking on the mazda 6 forum, I found out that this was not a stock mirror.

I’ve looked in the manual, which they give two types of mirrors, a manual dim and a automatic dimmer, which neither of the two match mine. their is only two buttons on this mirror

left button when you push it, turns the auto dim on or off, which when i start my car it is always off (trying to find a way to keep it off but still be able to turn it on, so no pulling fuses or wires) if you hold the left button in, it pops up the letters CAL next to the direction im going.

if you press the right button, it turns on and off the directional, if you hold the button, it give you zone 1-15?

it does not have a temp reading on it and it does not have lights on it.

what does cal mean?
what does zone 1-15 mean?
how do I keep this thing from turning on when I start my car?

I’m going to take another few pictures today with all the things I’ve talked about showing

edit: lol, that needs to be cleaned.

looks like a GM product to me

I dont understand why you would even put an after market one on if it doesnt even tell you the outside temp. thats retarded. i would never spend my money on something like this.

edit: drvnkd, good lucks. i need a manual on this shit though, i have no clue what the zone part is for or how to adjust properly.

Zone part likely has to do with the compass. Don’t know how much you read, but the CAL is the Calibrate mode. Basically you turn that on and do circles in a parking lot to recalibrate the compass. My WRX had something similar.

CIPA Auto Dimming Interior Rear View Mirror

Edit: what do I win?

was going to say it looks exactly like the subaru auto dimming mirror, but thats already been linked.

My guess is that the original buyer wanted an auto dimming rear view mirror and the dealership agreed to put one in. This is the byproduct.

I wouldn’t mind having a compass in my mirror…

How do you use it? You look in it when you want to see who is behind you…

I have actually been looking at a mod like this. They sell aftermarket kits that have a compass and thermometer built in. Good luck getting it figured out.

It looks like an after-market Gentex mirror. You could stop at D&R automotive on Seneca street to find out what zone we are in, I used to install them when I worked there. Ask for Ray D. he is the electronics manager and he should be able to help.
