I might convince my GF to part with her spare 85w magsafe. I’ve charged macbooks a thousand times with an 85w with no problems.

The 60w or 85w models from the MacBook or MacBook Pro will both work exactly the same on a MacBook. The charging is not regulated by the charger at all.
So if you can find a 85w one cheaper… Get it. Apple later revised the 85w models to be the same physical size as the 60w ones, so if you see a 85w model that is square like the 60w ones, its newer.
