04 Grand Am, radio stays on

04 Grand Am.
Turn the car off and open the door, and the radio will stay on.
It doesn’t shut off like normal.
Same thing happens if you just key over to ACC then OFF.
Radio won’t shut off.
It does shut off after 10 mins, but not when the door is opened.

Started happening yesterday night. For now I just turn the radio off.
I’m aware that it won’t kill the battery for staying on for 10 minutes, but I’m just nervous it might not shut off after 10 mins.

Diagnosis?

Ignition switch. You need a new one.

This was not what I wanted.
I guess I’ll live with it

thanks.

I’d only worry when you can pull the key out and the car keeps running haha.

lol is that really bad?
My 99 did that, I liked it lol.

It was nice when I forgot something in the house, I didn’t have to turn the car off to run back in… Could just pull the keys out in any position :stuck_out_tongue:
It still worked as normally, except for that part

Probably went for 2 years like that after I noticed it until the car met it’s demise.

Most likely needs a new radio. I’ll try and find some diag tips for you in a bit from GM SI.

A new radio was what I was hoping for honestly, since I have my old HD radio from my other car that I never put in.
But I can see a faulty ignition switch providing the constant power to the radio more likely.

funny i was thinking door switch, does the dome light come on when you open the door? because dosn’t that radio normally stay on till the door is opened? try it with a different door same thing?

identifix shows door switch, change it with the pass side to test if you can…

Pass door turned light on still, driver side did not when opened.

I figured it was a plunger type switch that turned it on and off, but it turned out to be the latch that controls it.
so I flipped the latch by hand to imitate the door opening/closing, and it turned the dome light on, and radio shuts off like it’s supposed to now.
Must have just been stuck or something? I don’t know.
But I lubed it up (and all other door moving parts) while I was at it for good measure.
It looked pretty damn gunky compared to the pass side.

thanks guys.
