I like the original bike better
still cool what you’re doing though. keep em coming

This is one of the reasons I didn't chop a stock triumph. I have way too much respect for them. I did a lot of looking for a chopper that had the stance I wanted and the potential to be my own.
I think it will look less extreme when I throw the 21" wheel up front. It has an 18" wheel now. The overall diameter will be 3-4" taller and chances are I’ll have to get the forks shortened to level the bike.
mustang tank
and i would want the original, but like you said at least it’s an already cut up example
Just recieved the two specialty tools I needed, updates tomorrow night. I should have the motor completely tore apart tomorrow.
CLUTCH HUB PULLER
CAM WHEEL PULLER/INSTALLER
im glad you agree. will look totaly badass when done.
go with the sportster tank! project is cool as hell.
my buddy is doing up a triumph too.
may need to borrow/rent these from you at some point
sure thing, just let me know
needs more whoolie bar. looks like an awesome build. I would love nothing more than to get on another bike this season, but after my antics last year, i decided im going to let my license clear up a little bit before i buy again.
Good luck with this and keep it moving, looks like your making awesome progress so far.
Love the original bike. For the project I concur on the mustang tank and shorter rake. Other than that, should be hot.
Sorry about the lack of additional progress.(If anyone is even following it) I just bought a mountain bike and managed to fracture my wrist really bad within a few minutes of riding.
Luckily I’m still waiting on a tool from England, so the wrist injury happened at an ideal time.
I’m in(was) the process of polishing the engine covers, and eventually the cases. The primary cover is 90% polished and has over 5 hours into it so the entire engine will probably take 50+ hours to polish.
The covers are really pitted and scratched so I’m having to start much more course than I had intended. On the primary the process went “paint remover wheel” 100, 150, 220, 400, and 2 levels of polishing compound.
I don’t have pics of the results yet but these are after some heavy sanding. There were scratches about an 1/8 inch deap.
got the cases split today. only snag was two screws that I had to drill out.
I apologize for the poor(more than usual) picture quality. I wasn’t expecting to work on the bike today so I didn’t have my camera.
I didn’t pics of the split cases or the crank yet…
Inner transmission cover
Finally got the $200 set of tools to remove all of the timing gears
Transmission housing- all gears in place
Transmission housing- empty
Primary side with the gear removed
Had to take a break from the Triumph to install door actuators, keyless entry, security system, and remote starter in my truck(what a pain in the ass that was)
Progress since I last updated.
I got down to the sludge trap. I destroyed the old one trying to get it out so I had to order a new one.
Then I cleaned up the cases and had a hole welded up. I had him fill the hole and I did the finish grinding.
Yesterday I finished up my first attempt at a seat.
I formed the seat pan by soaking plywood for a couple days and clamping it in place for another couple days with intermittent blasts from the heat gun to work out the water.
The padding is a two part. The base is a very dense rubber/foam. The top layer is a light weight batting.
The leather is actually an old jacket that I cut up.
The entire seat cost me under $10 to make
badass seat on the cheap! cool build keep it up!
lol that seat turned out awesome
Thanks for the compliments on the seat.
Today I worked on my newly arrived belt drive. The new primary weighs less than half of what the original did. After that I chopped the cover to expose the primary. Then I took a paint removal wheel to give the cover that industrial look. The paint removal wheel is going to all 3 covers in the end.
Today was spend stripping the bike down to frame. This included taking off the remaining electrical components, kickstand, fender, front end, and rear wheel
I found a crack in the frame which needs some attention. I haven’t ground down to it to see whats up yet.
