For sale is my 1995 Ford Ranger XLT. It has the 4.0 liter engine, 5 speed transmission, and is four wheel drive. It has 188XXX miles on it.
I bought the truck two years ago from an older man who used it strictly as a winter vehicle. He said that he bought it from someone that had a landscaping company. I found an envelope full of receipts for parts that were bought for the truck, as long as I can find them, they will go with the truck.
I bought the truck as a winter vehicle as well. It has served its purpose to me, and now its time for me to move on.
Everyone always wants to know what’s wrong with a vehicle before they buy it, so I will be upfront about the truck.
- The reverse lights don’t work. The fuse keeps blowing. You can replace the fuse, and the lights will work for a little while, then they will go out. It’s probably the bulb sockets, but it never bothered me enough to fix.
- The check engine, ABS, and air bag lights are on. The air bag light bulb is blown though. I don’t know what the check engine light is for and it never bothered me enough to look into because the truck is a 1995 and will pass inspection either way.
- It has a vibration at highway speeds. Tires might need to be rebalanced, or it might need U joints.
- Sometimes when leaving a stop, it doesn’t seem to want to go into first gear. The easiest way to get it to go into first is to drop it into fourth gear, then go back and engage first, then it will go in fine.
- There are a couple tears in the drivers seat, and some small rips in the headliner.
- The body had some rust, but its a 1995 and has spent its life in buffalo, so this is to be expected. The cab corners and rockers have some rot, but its not terrible.
- The exhaust from the muffler back rotted and fell off about a year ago. It now has an extension pipe and a turndown that ends just underneath the beginning of the bed. I drove it all winter like this with no issues. It isn’t very loud or obnoxious.
- When the truck is started during the winter on very cold mornings, sometimes it will chug for a few seconds like its going to stall, but then the rpms will spring back up and it will be fine.
I don’t consider this a bad thing, but before either I or the previous owner owned the truck, the vacuum hubs were replaced with manual locking hubs. I have read that the vacuum hubs were nothing but problems and this is a common swap. That being said, you have to get out of the truck, lock the hubs, then get back in and change the transfer case to 4WD (electronic).
I’ve kept up with regular oil changes on the truck. It has had the oil changed every 3000 miles. When I bought the truck, it needed front brakes, shackle, and shackle mount on the drivers side. Both these things were done. Last fall I replaced the plugs, wires, fuel filter, idle air control valve, and put an axle seal on the passengers side rear of the truck. The differential fluid was also changed at this time. The outer U joint on the drivers side was also replaced before winter. About two months ago, the passengers side shackle and shackle mount were replaced. THAT’S RIGHT, YOU WON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EITHER SHACKLE MOUNT. The tires have good tread and will pass inspection no problem. It also has a frame-mounted hitch that looks to be fairly heavy duty.
The truck starts every time without a problem, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere. In fact, I just drove it to Allegheny and back last weekend. (1.5 Hours one way)
I am selling the truck completely as-is. I have been upfront about the problems the truck has. Please feel free to ask any and all questions.
