2006 VW GTI vs 06 Civic Si

What do you guys think about this car? I especially want to hear from those of you who do own Vdubs…Have you all had any problems with you VW’s?

I went and Test drove it yesterday - Bad ass car shifting was freaking rediculous and without knowing it I was doing 120 on the highway and still felt I was only doing about 80. I love its personality I’m not thrilled with the way it looks…

Now mind you I have been waiting on my 06 Civic Si for about 5 months now and will be waiting another 3 months for it too come in. I love the way that car looks but the inside with the small stearing wheel thats starting to bother me… BUT only 5000 of these will be sold unlike the GTI so I know that I won’t be seeing one pass me every 5 seconds.

What would you guys do?

civic.

X3. low end torque is nice. i wish i had teh cash flow to get a MK5 gti. The 27k fully loaded pricetag just sucks.

Snail > Na

If your hell bent on the Civic, i think Rainbow honda has one, i know they have a few 06’s not sure how many SI’s they have tho.

Snail > Na ( if this is just a DD, i would take the Si over the GTi. I would be too tempted to mod it)

SI FTW!!! The new SI’s are crazy. I haven’t read or heard any bosting about the GTI yet. The SI is sucking up the fame.

K series power is the shit. Civic Si.

gti all the way

honda > vw

agreed.

better warranty, cheaper to modify, more reliable, and (probably) better resale.

fixed

civic defintely. I have a friend of mine that has one and although the new vw’s are nice…theres a reason why the new Si is so popular because it truly is THE best car honda has ever built even compared to the type r

same warranty… :gives: about modifying, she’s buyig a daily driver… , reliability of a 06??? stfu , better resale for something that’s been on the market for 2 months…?

why give a baised opinion as though it’s fact?

actually, looking into it, the VW warranty is slightly better. i stand corrected.

you and i both know VWs are in the shop more than Hondas.

Hondas tend to hold their value better than VWs. Based on previous models, it is to be expected that the Civic will hold its value better than the GTi.

Depends on what youare looking for in an automobile. The new GTI’s with chip tuning are already seeing ginormus increases in power across the board. The new FSI engine has a lot of potential and I forsee a big future for it.

As a daily car, the VW will get you off the line a little quicker. The torque is available very low in the RPM range in comparison to the SI. Plus with the new independent rear suspension on the GTI, handling just got better!

The SI, however, is a NA car and probably will hold value a LITTLE better. But, all the power in the SI is way up in the RPM range. So if you love driving at 7000 rpms all the time, the SI is your car.

But is this car going to be just a daily driver slightly modded, or do you want to squeeze every last HP/TQ out of the engine?

My vote is GTI, but I’m a VW man

actually I have to say your wrong. You really need to drive the new Si to appreciate it. I mean honestly that whole “no torque” thing is just bs because the honda is superior to anything germany can come up with in the same class. Sorry but its true. Honda has had independent rear suspension for longer than I’ve been alive and the k-series motors have increbible potential NA or FI. The k series motor was out for no more than 3 months and people were making well over 300bhp and this was years ago.
