Today was almost as bad as yesterday. Weather was on-off, Chicago traffic sux, more traffic, and it is cold here.
Today started off bad for me…I had to have a driveshaft made for the truck. It seems when you take a driveshaft to a “reputable shop” to have it shortened & balanced, they only decided to shorten it. I have had a vibration since I left PGH, that has gotten worse, so I decided to pull it & have it checked. Turns out it was way out of balance & had .040" of runout, plus the front yoke was spreading apart & the u-joint was shaking in the yoke. Now this driveshaft was just shortened last week & I was told it was balanced, but no way it could have been (sucks that this same shop just built me a new driveshaft for my GTO). Anyways, Mike @ Martin Spring & Driveshaft in Kalamazoo, MI built a new one from scratch. The plus side is that I got to see how one is built. Vibration is gone, so it was worth the few hundred beans they wanted for the new driveshaft.

The rest of the car (Impala SS) is bad ass, too. There are so many Impy SS’s here, that you get tired of seeing them. There is one with 1000 rwhp, twin turbo’d LT1 that looks completely stock on the outside.
We did not see this thing. Kinda interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Damn Tod, that sucks to hear about the Driveshaft … i think i know which shop it is ur refering to and thats shitty cuz i heard nothing but good about them

Nice pics Tod. I assume other than the driveshaft issue and some of the weather, you guys are having a good time. Keep posting pics when you get a chance for those of us that wish we were there.

sorry, no pics today… We were up throughout the night having much fun. We just woke up & are a little behind the 8 ball. The hotel next door had a bunch of guys that started doing burnouts at about 10pm. There was a pair of new Z06’s that were drag racing/doing huge burnouts in the lot. A few f-body cars drifting around the lot. A 70 Olds 442 doing huge smoky burnouts. An old style Lightning with a blown 408 that sounded like a 9 second vehicle at the burnout pit. An LS1 T/A was doing donuts in the lot in between the hotels. Also the occasional car driving by would stop in & do burnouts. Lots of laughs, lots of fun and total mayhem. The cops stopped a few times, but left when there was no action. The dude with one of the Z06 owns a Chevy dealership & it was a brand new car with 2000 miles on it. He probably wasted a set of tires and a clutch last night. There was some guy doing vids of it, and he is supposed to email me, but I doubt I will get them anytime soon.
Finally, the weather is great, and we can enjoy this trip. Yesterday between Peoria, IL & Springfield, IL we were running with about 6 cars & ran 80-120mph for over 50 miles. There was a turbo’d 3.4 DOHC fiero, a turboed euro Ford Seirra, Turboed Audi making 400 whp, 2 f cars, and a C5. I was running right with all of them, but the fiero would have tore me up in a drag race. It runs 12.0s in street trim and makes 420 whp.
We took a ton of pics, so I will post them when I can. We are heading to Evansville, IN today.
