It’s not a joke. It happens every year. Someone delusionally says they’re god’s gift to driving because they drifted Mom’s Camry around a corner once, shows up with a heavily modified car, then gets their ass kicked by some kid who’s been driving a few years in a mostly stock economy car.
I’m not wrong in assuming 99% of the people posting on this forum think they’re good drivers. I challenge everyone to PROVE it.
Last year I offered my personal car to anyone and said I would come out and declare them to be a better driver than me if they could beat me in my car. No barriers - just show up and abuse my car. This year I’m issuing a similar challenge - show up in your car, beat the hell out of me (160 whp stock RX-8 on street tires), and I will come on the forum and proclaim your awesomeness.
I will also buy you an energy drink of your choice just for showing up.

The standard nationally competitive Street Modified cars are putting down 500+ whp and weigh around 2,000 lbs.
Several of the C-Prepared/Classic American Muscle cars are putting down 700+ whp.

It’s always a good time. The detractors are generally autistic antisocial rejects who stay in their car between runs. Yes, you stand around a lot but you do that at a car show too.
Autocross is a car show where you also just happen to get to drive your car like a maniac.
i’ve run autoX once before and the way it was set up seemed better for smaller, low powered cars like a well set up Mini or maybe a NA KA 240.
i guess it depends on the lay out.

I have done autocross in a Lambo…its pretty meh. Driving around cones in a parking lot is just less than a thrill for me especially in a higher hp car.
But I just cannot get behind someone claiming that they are an exceptional driver because they can navigate some home brewed course in a parking lot.
But the whole point is to enjoy your car any way that you like. Roll racing…Drag Racing…AutoCross…Track Days are all good in their own respects.

@cretinx there have been other passionate defenders of Auto-X here in the past. In fact most of us older guys did a LOT of Auto-X back in the day (2001+) but generally grew tired of it so we started to go to Dunnville & TMP instead. It cost a bit more but seat time was measured in hours not minutes. I used to Auto-X at almost every event but now personally I’d rather do a Wednesday or Friday night at TMP. @bing and I go during the week in the summer, you should join us.
I think you’d be surprised, but no one needs to prove anything.

@cretinx I think most have gotten past the point of the point of drifting our mom’s camry but I’d gladly take you up on the offer of a free energy drink if I manage to make it out this year.
