it’s been awhile since i’ve been on here. bad virus, long story… in the time i’ve been gone i came across a 90 240sx.
autopac wrote off my 89, i bought it back and paid them the 130$ i owed them, after all was said and done, i had 2100$ and a broken 240! so i wanted to use that money to fix my car. i saw this 90 240 and checked it out.
there is a number of things wrong with it, much like alot of other 240’s it’s rusted to shit, surprize surprize!! it’s got a blown headgasket, and no clutch pedal. what i’ve found so far.
what it does have is a decent interior(tan), v-lsd, front bumper w/ lip, hood and everything else i will need to fix my front end. most of the body is rusted, something i don’t really need, but i will have access to any part i need engine/tranny/suspension etc. also the star rims instead of the gay tear drop ones!
he wanted 800$, but clearly isn’t worth that, i offered him 650, we settled on 700. i figured it would have costed me more to buy the whole front end, v-lsd, a/c, and the few interior parts i need. this way i have a replacement for most parts.
the car looks ruff man. i would say you paid too much for it. you should not pay anything over $500 for a parts car. period. you caould probably get a running 240 for $700. also, its no fun pulling parts with that much rust on a car. trust me i have been there. good luck with the car man.
Yea I agree, $700 was too much for that. I picked up a running parts car for $100 in similar condition, but like tosh said something around $500 would have been more acceptable. But its done now, so take what you need and part the rest, you may be able to make a couple hundred bucks off of parting shit.
much agreed, i figured i paid to much, but i had 2g’s from autopac, and i only paid 1200$ for my 89 in mint(no rust) safetied. 1900 for 2 240’s, not to bad.
both have blown headgasket’s, with 2 motor’s i’m sure i can make one. if it didn’t have a vlsd, there’s no way i would have paid 7 bills.
keep in mind i live in a shit hole of 50,000ppl. there is 4 240’s in town and i own 2 of them! parts r hard to find and when you do they are expensive. when i am done with it, i plan on parting out the parts i wont be using.
the guy i bought it from was going to fix it up and use it as a drift car, the guy he got it from was using it as a drift car(tell by the various scratches). i’m not sure, but it looks like it has a short throw shifter as well, but it could just be a knob change. it’s to cold outside to fuck around with it, so it can and will wait till spring. i’m getting 2G from income tax, so i might say fuck the ka and find myself a sr.
what is the average price for a sr, new, used and beaten? i’m not looking for a black or blue top, but ur average red top will do.
in the 3rd picture(passenger strut tower) there is something in the background, is that the abs or hicas? my 89 doesn’t have abs, rumor has it, if i want to use the vlsd from the 90, i’ll need the drive shaft as well?
for those of you that have gone thro a few 240’s, which do you perfer abs or no abs? is it 4 wheel abs? how hard would it be to take abs from one and put it into another?
i had a 79 camaro that wasn’t winter driveable, my grandma gave me a 93 ford areo star that i drove in the winter and it had rear abs. i wish it would have been the awd version, could have had more fun in the snow, although it did drift pretty well!! the abs did help a few times.
I made the same mistake with my first s13. I grossly overpaid for it. But i made as much as i could back from parting it and selling whatever i had left in that chassis.
read the post, its a parts car, stop wasting time 90 240sx PARTS CAR,
price doesnt really matter, you wanted it, you needed it, you found it, you paid what you thought was fair, get the parts you need and sell the rest, when its all said and done youll have a nice car and the money back will offset the 7hundo. good luck man.
the damage to my car isn’t really that bad, the hood is pushed up a bit, the part with the “vents” is pushed down, causing my lights no to go down, and hood doesn’t close properly. i coulda went to the junk yard(2 hours away b/c there isn’t a 240 in ours) and buy all the parts i need(chances are i wouldn’t have gotten the front lip or vlsd) I’d have to try and take them all off while i was there and fit them in a yaris!! i don’t think the hood would fit but maybe!!
2 feet away is every part i need. i might have paid a few bills extra, but it’s gonna save time and money in the long run. once i get a nice day I’m gonna start taking shit off. I’ll be taking pictures, to I’ll keep u guys updated. thanks for your input, any suggestions or advice on swapping the from end is welcome, it will be my first time doing any real work on my 240. I’m excited to get to work. because it was written off, i have to get a shop to put the front end back on, but I’m gonna take everything off to save time and money at the shop.
can anyone confirm this rumor? 90 has abs, 89 doesn’t, when i take the vlsd from the 90 do i need the drive shaft as well? i heard if it has abs the vlsd is 2 inch longer, so the drive shaft is 2 inch shorter. is this true?
lol, yea i think so!!i paid 1200 for a very clean safetied 240!
are those rims spray painted black?? they look better black then silver, but still look kinda gay either way(sry to anyone supporting those rims, including myself for now!!, but i don’t like them!!)
yup lol Rb25DET TOMEI metal head gasket, mckenney mounts and drive shaft, custom 3 core rad and slim flans. ACT stage 3 clutch with 6 puck ceramic disc. big front mount intercooler. walbro 255 full 3" stainless exhaust haha… and I parted a shit load of the stock stuff out… … I think I got a good deal lol
well, i’d say u got a good deal! i thought at first u got it as is in the picture for 2400, damn!! but thats a sweet deal, i wish this 90 would have had a sr or atleast a ka24de, but i like my sohc, it still thumps on crapaliers and sunflowers!! so i’m happy!
