Hey guys, just wanted to share with you guys the newest addition to my family, my 1968 Pontiac Firebird. This particular car i have a lot of history with. This is the very car that got me into cars, this is the one that started it all for me when my uncle and i put the pontiac 350 big block in it when i was at the age of ten, thats 15 years ago. Here are the specs:
-Pontiac 350 big block, mild cam, Weiand dual plane intake, Holley 670 cfm vac. seconday carb, Hooker headers, and a Mallory optical distributor.
-Muncie M21 4 speed
-Pontiac 10 bolt rear end with 3.43:1 lsd, (no c-clips)
-Front power disc brakes
-power steering
-painless wiring harness
I plan on keeping with Pontiac parts by rebuilding this engine or switching to a 400 and converting over to port fuel injection with pretty much the same option as my e30 build (GM DIS, stepper IAC, launch control, etc…). Stiffen the suspension a little bit more, a richmond 6 speed, and some wheels.
Without too many more words here are the pics. Enjoy!
ps- dont knock the Pontiac parts. I’m a firm believer that Pontiacs were orignally built for performance, so i dont need chevy motors in there if i already have stock heads and other parts that are just as good as aftermarket chevy parts. its weird i know.
Nice car with alot of potential. Im sure Year One or somebody sells emblems like the one missing a few letters and you can fix a few other minor things like the seat and missing center from the steering wheel.
Good to hear youre not putting a Chevy 350 in it and calling it a day. I really like the idea of the FI and 6 speed in it.
Yep, Pontiac 350 big block. First off visually the heads are huge. But over all Pontiac motors a flowed a bit better then Chevy motors did from the valving to the porting. Til about 1966ish they also ran compression ratios as high as 10.5:1 with their 455. And from 350 to 455 most of the heads are interchangeable within eachother. A cheap bump up in compression ratio is as easy as finding certain 400 heads and throwing them on. Love Pontiacs! :banana
i went for a ride in a 68 firebird just like that a few years ago up by my camp, i forget the guys name but he is a friend of my mom’s. I duno what he had done to it, but by the end of the bridge we were doin like 140 and i was like… damn maybe i could drive a muscle car. :nod
