also that’s pretty wild

I’ve watched a handful of AI generated music utilizing deceased singer’s voices and some of it is pretty convincing. There is almost always a couple spots within the songs that you can tell are electronic in nature and not a natural voice but it’s interesting to say the least.

lmao

he was caught and is now being charged but damn! 10 mil!!!

I had to get more details on this. Case is WILD.

I’m guessing that legally he would have been ok just generating tons of AI songs and publishing them as randomly generated “artists” but where it crossed into fraud was when he also used bot farms to get repeated plays of his songs to generate the revenue.

Makes me wonder how many plays you could get just submitting say 1000 randomly generated songs to Spotify each month?

So he could have been fine if he didn’t live in the USA

I’m not going to fact check this but IIRC a play on spotify is worth a fraction of a cent, so you’re going to need a lot of plays/songs to make money. But with a program I’m sure this isn’t too difficult to accumulate.

Wonder if he used Python. I just started watching youtube videos last week, hoping to learn to automate some spreadsheets at work.

The payouts are indeed fractions of a cent. Varies a lot by location but figure the average is $2 to $3 per 1000 streams. But when you’re submitting 1000’s of songs and using 1000’s of bot accounts to stream those songs randomly 24/7/365 it obviously added up. To stay on the legal side (aka, not using bots to inflate your streams) I don’t see how you’d ever make much money, unless you got EXTREMELY lucky and your AI song went crazy viral. What’s one of the biggest unknown artists to go viral lately? Probably Anthony Oliver and Rich Men North of Richmond right? 243 million streams on Spotify as I look at it on my phone. At $0.0025 per stream that’s $607k. A good chunk of change sure, but we’re talking about the biggest viral song I could think of. Taylor Swift’s Cruel Summer (her top streamed song on Spotify) has 2.5 billion streams and even that “only” works out to $6.2 million. Don’t forget she was pulling in about $14 MILLION PER SHOW on her tour.
