Why the fuck would you buy sneakers and not wear them? Collecting sneakers is almost the dumbest shit on Earth, second only to the obesity epicemic. Stamps, watches, paintings, coins. You can organize and display that shit, and has some sort of value from rarity or craftsmanship. Fucking sneakers come off a Korean assembly line and any idiot with the cash can grab a pair. Are you going to organize and display sneakers? No, you’re going to keep them in the box in your closet and then only take them out to impress the other rich white kids who spend their money on this because they are afraid of cocaine. Holy hell usually when you spend money on something purely to absorb status points into your feeble sense of identity it’s a bit better disguised as something worth owning. Good watches can last for over 100 years. I can’t get a pair of sneakers to last more than 6 months.
Truth. Everyone has their hobbies and this is no different than them. And yes you can display sneakers the same way you do stamps and other bullshit that people waste money on. I’d rather have a couple hundred dollar pair of sneakers that I COULD wear and not care if they really get fucked up. Some of those crazy ass watches in that thread though…yeah no thanks on replacing that.

One difference is $4850, another is you can wear it without ruining its value, another is that an expensive watch is made by a skilled craftsman not unskilled 3rd world labor.
Don’t get me wrong it’s still buying identity, but at least you’re buying the identity of a successful rich person when you buy an expensive watch. When you buy sneakers that you don’t intend to wear you’re buying the identity of the other sneaker collectors. Does anyone worth emulating collect sneakers? Didn’t this whole nonsense start with Jordans so you were at least emulating someone with talent? Fucking kids forgot about the talent part and just emulate each other now.
