Airbags? We don't need no stinkin airbags! [Chevy Impalas]

Touche

It’s interesting Fry’s test lists the side air bag as optional but all the info I’ve seen says they are standard on all time levels of the Impala. That’s the big question in all this for me. If they really are standard on all models that’s why I have a big problem with them getting deleted. The majority of people, including sales people, are going to assume the side air bags are there because they’re supposed to be standard.

If they’re optional on all cars, not just specially negotiated fleet sales, then to me it’s just buyer beware.

Big new last August?

Also, GM will no longer allow fleet buyers to skip out on side curtain airbags

Also, the option was $145, so $200 would mean sidebag are the only option that appriciates in a car.

^ Missed it in august. Just showed up in the local news today.

Good to see GM decided to eliminate the option. I guess it just bothers me that a huge corporation like Enterprise was sitting around saying, “Yeah, if we could get GM to eliminate this STANDARD safety feature we could save a tiny amount of money per car.”

Bottom line rules right?

It is funny because all the fleet Tahoes/Expeditions come with trailer hitches.

They have the delete code in the glove box, sucks that sales men mislead their customers. Why can’t you hold the sales men accountable for not knowing their products.

I had a guy at GM tell me the other day that the 350 in the new camaro puts out over 1hp per cubic inch! :roflpicard:

Well if it was standard equipment and enterprise included side impact airbags in the sales description of the online auction. What would cause you as a salesperson to check to make sure the airbags were really there before reselling the vehicle?

I forget that something that might cause people to go Ape shit here, might not be news worthy anywhere else.

I mean the FBI raided 3 Toyota suppliers 2 days ago and autoblog just got to posting about it today.

I might have come down to enterprise saying if you can’t get the price down more then we will go buy 100K ford taurus instead of the impala, so if deleting a option that the majority does not care/know about means the sale of a huge number of cars I would have made the same move.

Yah why not. Everyone does this same stuff. If you check I’m pretty sure the Crown Victorias come standard with side airbags in the normal LX models, but any commercial base one does not.

See my attached pictures directly from Ford’s website.

The fact that you can almost never trust anyone’s work besides your own. There isn’t a car I’ve ever purchased where I didn’t check the option code sheet. If you are a car sales man, I’d hope you’d check it too.

I hear you and do the same, but the car salesmen I have met are not as detailed.

Especially a place like simons and rockwell that moves a ton of off rental inventory. The salemen probably moved multiple Impala’s every day and just asked the customer what color they wanted.

My sister’s new Malibu just got back from the dealer because the ABS light came on. Turns out GM forgot to hook up some wiring from the factory.

Also, about the above post:

Why would you want airbags in a police car that is sometimes intentionally crashed? I think the departments actually request no airbags.

I am just left in awe at what people can sue over. I wish I could be a judge so I could tell all the crazies to gtfo.

I’m assuming police cruisers don’t have them for the same reason. The police car does come with extra supports in the door which is cool.

I’m just relating that this can happen to other models besides the Impala. If a dealer gets a ex- detective car, chances are it will go on the lot as a regular LX car.

To be blunt I have a PI that was purchased brand new that doesn’t have side airbags. I have an original window sticker that says it is an LX when it is really a PI. It was ordered as a PI but to be able to sell it to the public the dealer issued it as a LX. I bet this happened all over directly from Ford. Can I sue them and gets me some moneys for my missing standard bags?
