Alternator Compatibilty help

I need to know where I can find or if anyone knows what alternators out of what car are compatible with one out of a 1997 Hyundai Accent other than one from the same car. We are going to the junkyard and these cars aren’t exactly all over the place there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick

Have you checked parts stores? Is there a reason you need a junkyard alternator instead of a store bought reman?

Talk to / PM Viper966. I’m sure he knows.

I think I remember hearing that parts like Alternators for Hyundai’s can’t be bought at local parts stores. They just don’t carry them. You have to go to the dealership where prices are much higher.

www.rockauto.com

They list parts, and if you click on the part info they list a cross reference. Clicking on the Bosch reman For a 1997 Hyundia Accent GL alternator it lists the following xref:

HYUNDAI ACCENT (1995 - 1999)
HYUNDAI ACCENT GL (1995 - 1997)
HYUNDAI ACCENT GS 1997
HYUNDAI ACCENT GT (1996 - 1997)
HYUNDAI ACCENT L (1996 - 1997)
HYUNDAI S-COUPE (1993 - 1995)
HYUNDAI S-COUPE LS 1993

Autozone lists it for $129.99 + core, special order at store or available online. Cheapest on rockauto was considerably less.

Go to an alternator rebuild guy. My guy can put a Delco 105 in anything, I have one in my Corolla right now. They’re indestructible, they come in police cruisers.

what jay posted is right…

those had the old DOHC motors in them… not a lot of “modern” comppatability

HYUNDAI ACCENT (1995 - 1999)
HYUNDAI ACCENT GL (1995 - 1997)
HYUNDAI ACCENT GS 1997
HYUNDAI ACCENT GT (1996 - 1997)
HYUNDAI ACCENT L (1996 - 1997)
HYUNDAI S-COUPE (1993 - 1995)
HYUNDAI S-COUPE LS 1993

Thanks guys. I didn’t want to get one from the auto parts store because I can get one at M & M for 15.00 (they have 1 in stock(not guaranteed to work)) and a new one at Advance cost me close to $200.00 with warranty, but I am broke and can’t afford to spend that much on an alternator for a winter car. I was kinda wishing that I could get one off of a different kind of car instead of it having to be mostly off of another accent. But I appreciate the help!! Thanks for the site too

You may be able to have someone rebuilt it for cheap. I had one for my old Grand Am rebuilt for like $70. Check around you, someone may do it.
