Hello. My name is Andrew. I’m 22 and just completed my military obligation this past August. I’m now a full time student pursuing my BS in Accounting and work as a part time employee at HSBC in downtown Buffalo.
Carmen:
1976 Pontiac Trans Am.
37,460 original miles
My father placed the order in the spring of 1975. My uncle placed an order for a 1975 Formula as well. She was picked up and brought home on Christmas Eve, 1975. My father was 21 years old.
The T/A acted as his daily driver for two-three full years, where it registered nearly 30,000 miles. In the fall of 1978 my father slid into a tree at about 20 mph, purchased another car and the T/A began to take a back seat. My father married, had me and lost financial ability to repair the car properly. The T/A was then stored everywhere; random barns, friends of the family, abandoned steel mills along the waterfront…you name it.
In 1985, just when our entire family started hounding him to sell it he threatened to divorce my mother, claiming “you’ll go before the car goes.” (True Story).
Anyway, all along he had been saving money (since 1978) to repair the car and did just that in 1985. The car had 31,500 miles on it in the summer of 1985.
Fast Forward to 2006-2007, my high-school graduation. The bill of sale was for $1. It was mine. I shipped off to basic training. Met Patt Budd and Randy Jewell (my builders – Holly NY). Saved my Army paychecks and paid for the mini tub, cage, interior, brake set up, spray and misc.
It’s 2011, 37,460 miles and it’s not going anywhere. The stories surrounding this car are endless. It’s truly a member of the family and has acted as a campfire for my father, our friends, family and myself.
