Wednesday my mother-in-law decided to start on yet another remodel at the house we rent from her. The house used to have a covered porch that was starting to just fall down and looked like hell. So she decided to basically tear it down and just do a basic front deck style porch. She was going to try to keep the roof but it was so rotted out that there’s no way it would last another winter without coming down on its own so we got to work. Started Saturday morning at 7am, worked all day, worked all day Sunday, then I took today off to get the majority of it finished up. There are still a few last things to do (replace siding, finish a small section or railing by the steps, finish landscaping), but its just about done… all in a matter of 3 days… yea, I’m down right exhausted.

Now to try to get the bathroom finished. Yea, its still not done yet… lol.
The forward bricks were pre-existing with a good base. We just had to re-morter them so they wouldn’t continue crumbling. Then in the middle of the base the previous idiot decided that a couple 2x4s attached to the floor and sitting on the ground would be adequate support. Needless to say they were completely rotted out which was making the floor so unstable. For those we poured 5 new concrete footings. Basically the flowers you see there now will be the only bushes. There will be some “filling” flowers put in between those to add some color, and some rose bushes will be put in at the very end. We are trying to keep it as open as possible since the yard is so small.
I see, I just figured the drive through traffic could get rather annoying, especially if you’re trying to have a cookout on the front on a nice day. I’m not sure on the costs but many people put the “box” bushes right by the road to give the most yard space and the least subtle barrier. But yes you don’t have much room to work with.
Who’s Skidsteer? The thing makes a big job like that (landscape wise at least) a breeze.
my dad’s. He does a lot of wood working (cutting up large full size trees into 2x4,2x16, etc boards). He has a huge saw mill that is set up on a trailer and he used the track-steer to load the trees onto it. But yes it does make things a lot easier.
