Sorry I couldn’t bring you guys another siq dumped whips thread, fucking lolz…but I have a actual question.
Does anyone one on here have a dealer account, or access to APR parts? I’m specifically looking for the GTC-200 universal wing. Yes, I know I can get it directly from them, but they sell for almost 250 bucks more than thier vendors sell it for. Some canadian vendors want $1000+ for the exact same part number that can be found for under $600.
The issue here isn’t the money necessarily, but these days 95% of vendors selling parts for racing or whatever have ZERO FUCKING INVENTORY, and have never had thier hands on what I’m after physically. I’m tired of the whole “take my cashish, wait a month or two and tell me you actually never had it and can’t get it, while hassling me about refunds”.
So any of you guys have a connection or two? I know that some of the higher funded drift guys run the exact same wing, so for once they might be useful. Kidding about the last part, serious and ready to buy if the avenue presents itself.
Shit, finding one used is even tough…yet somehow there are more than a few listing for the entire setup minus the wing itself, pretty useless IMO.
King, its going to be on an Integra actually, and yes I am aware of it’s 59.5 inch width. Optimal on my chassis appears to be 57, and it’s necessitated by the amount of downforce my undertray and front splitter setup offers. High spring rates + giant bars with no rear downforce = oversteering mess. Loads of ITCC, and HondaChallenge/Koni Challenge drivers have had great success with it, and it’s pretty much the only option for real aero…the rest is ricer garbage, aside from Mugen gen2, and even that doesn’t get into clean air enough for my liking.
Thanks for the link! Unfortunately, I cannot cut the 67" down, as I would be cutting off most of the blade mounting area. They stand several inches wider than the universal / S2000 / Miata fitments…and If I’m not mistaken the end plate mounting bosses do not extend more than a few inches inside the blade. My carbon fab skills are at a playskool level, so virtually off-the-shelf or no go.
What is the blade width and pedestal distance? I have a feeling you have one of the wider ones, otherwise I’d be all over it. Do you have the part number? I can look it up and see if the feet can be modified without much hassle.
if you can get me a part number i can see if i can get one for you, i have some accounts i can try… won’t be crazy cheap or anything but it’s worth a shot.
or just buy Mike’s since he’d radical and your money will undoubtedly go to support more radical things.
Thanks Bing… The one I was after is this one: AS-105958
If you can get it that’d be pretty cool, and I don’t expect it to be cheap per se, but I think 800 for one is crazy. I cannot believe there isn’t a single option that isn’t spec’d for the roundy-round crowd. I know J’s made one a while back, but that is JDM unobtainium these days.
According to APR, the one you have is spec’d for a 2000-2005 Celica, and is 67 inches wide. As tempting as that may be, I cannot cut 10 inches off of that one and still have the same wing profile across the blade. I appreciate the offer though!
No d0rifto, sorry. I road race, hillclimb, and auto-x with it. Here’s an image from early this past season (from an SCCA Time Trial, pre-splitter.
Here’s an in-car video of a run from the Polish Mountain Hill Climb in MD. You guys with high powered RWD stuff would do great on the hills! Sorry for the slow start of the action, but I have arm restraints on and had to start the video in the grid…and it includes the trip back to the paddock as well. For reference some of the longer sections I bounce the rev limiter in 4th, roughly 120mph! I know it doesn’t look terribly impressive, but later that day I set the record for my class.
Bing, there is stuff much closer in PA and NH. If I don’t go out with some people to Pike’s Peak next year I’m probably going to hit the Mount Washington Hill Climb.
Pike’s Peak is pretty ridiculous I must say, even after two full HC seasons…I’m not sure I want to drive that hill just yet. Mt Washington I will certainly be at, as most on the 2011 calender.
Bing: Take a look at www.pahillclimb.org None of the locations are more than 5-6 hrs away from Pittsburgh…most are actually in Central PA. I can’t even explain the atmosphere at these events. It’s basically a three day BBQ with racing all day Sat/Sun.
As for car prep, it follows the SCCA-GCR rules for Time Trial, the GCR can be found online to get an idea of what class you might fit into, as well as in-depth rulesets.
Here is the caveat, and what you need as a minimum…and everything MUST be current SFI or FIA spec…drag stuff is NOT sufficient.
You need at least a 4pt roll bar
SFI Nomex racing suit, balaclava, gloves, shoes
SNell 2005 or newer helmet
FIA level FIXED BACK seats, must be within date allowance…non-FIA seats (still fixed) can be used…but REQUIRE a back brace bolted to it
current spec SFI/FIA harnesses, at least a 5pt
current SFI spec arm restraints
most importantly an SCCA Time Trial license (which is super easy to get)
They are not mandatory yet, but winged seats and head and neck restraints will become required equipment by 2013 at the latest. I planned ahead and bought a winged OMP FIA seat in anticipation last season, but haven’t picked up a HNR yet…patiently waiting for the DefeNder to get it’s SFI rating.
Over the course of a weekend you get about 7-8 runs up a hill per day, most are usually over a mile long and the adrenaline is unbelievable. Even for a seasoned track guy like me, nothing quite compares to driving at race speed with zero runoff room, nothing but trees and guardrails. Last season, at Polish Mtn, a buddy of mine in a very high powered early Camaro in the SM class missed his braking point and hit a tree six fucking feet in the air. The v-shaped caved-in part of his car was over three feet deep…shove the motor and trans right out of the bottom of the car. Due to the level of safety gear he had on, and on site medivac…he was back in the paddock drinking beer with the same day. I HIGHLY recommend some of you guys doing it, you will be hooked.
