Are AMD processors worth it?

WHAT? I can’t understand this post…

I think you are confused about his post. he means intel is still on top in spite of AMD releasing bulldozer, which in many benchmarks is even slower than their last processors (like in games).

despite* not “in spite”

no wonder everyone is yelling at each other

Whoops I did read it wrong continue on lol, personally this is going to be the whole like intel over amd vice versa. Just putting it out their I like them equally and have owned the both. Amds are great budget CPUs and Intels are great if your rich and wanna blow butt loads of money for more umph and power. Just an observation Intels seem to run hotter then Amds. I’m pretty sure every computer guru can remember the socket 478 Prescott 2.80ghz intel pentium 4 CPU them fuckers ran hot. Newer CPUs like i5 and i7 seem to run hot as apposed to the i3.

Yes that is what I meant and you probably know everything I’m about to say because it’s your job lol.

Just as a general FYI for everyone else even though AMD released Bulldozer it didn’t turn out to be as great as everyone hoped and Intel’s i7 offerings are still king. The 6 core BE AMD chips actually perform better than the 8 core Bulldozer chips in a lot of benchmark test areas unfortunately.

Bought this today for $299 and threw in $150 into a vid card and better PSU.

Should be a decent little gaming rig.

Damn good deal minus the crappy motherboard what video card and psu?

Yea yea I kno, but they will improve Just give it time. I just dont see the point of blowing $xxx on a intel CPU. My core 2 quad was a good purchase but when I got a am2+ black edition x4 I really didn’t see a difference other than loading apps games and etc and I was basically only seconds like 3-4 at the most

That mobo surprisingly got decent ratings, I’m normally an ASUS kind of guy myself.

I really don’t give a shit though. At $300 I can replace it in two years with fresh hardware.

GTX550TI and OCZ Fatality 550w.

Yea it’s under warranty,So you will be fine. I aggre that’s a great price for all that I wish I had the extra cash to buy a extra rig

Yeah I hope they do. I’m not really biased either way but like you sometimes I choose AMD because of the budget.

Desktop = AMD
Laptop = Intel
Old Laptop = AMD
Old Desktop = Intel

Just like me! Lol gotta keep everyone happy with supporting all parties.

Ok there was actually an Intel based one for $60 more with 1TB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, an a dual core 2MB cache (instead of the 1MB on the AMD) so my parents are just buying that one. I figure that will last them at least 4 years unless they suddenly get into gaming or 3D design. Still, not a bad deal for $289 and free shipping for an all in one computer.

IS there room for upgrade in the future? More ram, different CPU etc? I built my parents a computer for around $550 with a low end quad core and 4 Gigs of ram.

They have had a Pentium 4 PC for the last 5 years. I doubt they will out use this. Haha.

My parents went from a Windows ME, P4 computer to the one I built. Every now and then I get the “this computer is so slow” which is a vague phrase in the non-tech department.

I just posted this in another thread, but it applies here too

^^ strange. Didn’t they just hype up their multicore CPUs and aren’t they being used on the US supercomputer project?

Yeah I don’t think they are getting out of the x86 market all together, but they aren’t focusing on it any more, so you can expect future chips to not be amazing.

That’s interesting for sure but it’s not like they’ve done a really good job of competing with Intel in the past 6-7 years.

The proper response to this is, “Tell dad to stop watching porn”.
