Today while at UB i overheard a claim that the bombing of Germany during WWII was a pre planned and calculated act by the US government to boost the US economy after the war. If German industry was destroyed there were profits to be made rebuilding it, and those profits were then in turn used to fund the Vietnam war in order to extend American Imperialism.
I hate the twisted idiotic views that are spewed out at UB and undoubtedly every college in the nation. I hate people.
But huge  to this new series, the story of the Pacific theater is often overlooked and this is unfortunate.
Totally. My grandfather spent his time in the Philippines. He died when i was still in the single digits, but the stories that were passed on were pretty damn intense.
On topic though, I finally got around to watching the first episode tonight. I was kinda disappointed, but i think that was only because i’m still comparing it to Band of Brothers, of which i’ve already seen the entire series. This is only the first episode of The Pacific. The first episode of Band of Brothers was nothing compared to the rest of the series so I’m still really excited to see all of The Pacific. Although I think that in Band of Brothers they did a better job of character development in the first episode.
My great grandfather was on the USS Wasp CV-7 That sunk in the Pacific. He was part of the few that survived as he waited in the ocean, as some of his buddies were eaten by sharks, or killed in the torpedoing of the ship. I plan on getting a tattoo to honor his service. Hopefully I can learn more about him.
A big thank you to all veterans and current armed forces members!
I like how they decided to go with very young actors this time around. Most soldiers that actually did the fighting during WW2 were 18-23. These actors look very immature and young (possibly because they are young in real life) which adds to the realism.
