Best way to purchase a southern vehicle?

What’s the best way to do this?

I dug up some old threads looking for info… IE; http://www.nyspeed.com/showthread.php?220027-Recommend-me-the-best-diesel-truck-motor/page2&highlight=southern+truck
Not much info on how to go about it, but info on what to look for in a truck.

I’m looking for a diesel 1ton CC/Extended cab with 8’ bed.
~$20k tops.

Something in the newer style 05-06+ area. (with the higher ~26k GCWR compared to the early 2000 style)
They’re easy to find around here in that price range, but most of the main problems can be avoided by a southern truck. Salt, plowing, etc…

But how do you pick out a good one without seeing it?
I would most likely fly to get it.

However I’m also thinking about places like auction direct or similar, that will look for the truck you want with a downpayment. Anyone have much luck with these services?

Most any dealership will find you something with a deposit. I sell cars, and we would definitely find you something if you were to give us exactly what you want.

What about diesel forums? If you find something enthusiast driven that hasn’t been beat to shit, especially if it’s a respected member with people who can vouch, that may be the way to go. I have bought 3 vehicles from out of state and two of them were off of forums for that type of car.

They’ll look out of state for one?
I understand they’ll look locally, but I wouldn’t have thought they’d look down south.

Haven’t thought of it. Not a bad idea at all. Thanks.
Actually… you gave me a great idea… thanks!

ultradriver10000 if you want to look in texas

The buyer for the company i work for goes to Florida all the time (his daughter lives there so he uses auctions as an excuse), and we can look at dealer inventory from pretty much every dealer in the country.
